Prairie Wood Ranch will be having some changes this year. After all these years, I will be cutting my herd in half so I can spend more time with my family and really want to travel more. I am not sure how many of you really know me, but here is my background, I have been a breeder of Miniature Goats since 1987, That is 2/3rds of my life. I have consistently had a herd that runs over 150 adults and produces over 250 kids per year. You can imagine all those years, having to feed twice a day, Kids Raising, Health care Etc FOR EVERYDAY OF YOUR LIFE! Definitely not ready to sell out, but do need less of a workload at my age. I am one of the original Nigerian Dwarf Breeders still around since the conception of the breed. My husband Daniel Kniffin was never a "Goat Guy" but always had my back and is my biggest supporter and helper for the last 20 years, though he and I also own a Real Estate Company, which is a juggle, but we are a good tag team. I was the originator of the New Mexico Nigerian Dwarf Goat Club and President for Many Years until we combined with the Southwest Dairy Goat Club and was the president for the last 10 years until I just retired from that. I was a director for the American Goat Society, before ADGA allowed Nigerians. I have been the Show Chairperson and put on Countless ADGA Shows. I have Sold hundreds of Goats to First Time Goat Owners and thousands of kids Nationwide, and beyond across the globe over the last 37 Years. I have promoted the Breed on TV many times. I also LOVE Making Goat Related Crafts and have my Page for Goat Gifts from Prairie Wood Ranch. I have seen the Good, the Bad and the Ugly from other goat raisers across the internet, most haven't been in it for a minute. Some advice I can give from my knowledge over all this time, is Breed what you like, Don't let other people put in your head what you are supposed to like. Goats are a All Purpose animal! If you like to Show, Great, Raise the Best Show Goats you Can, if you like Milking Do That, if you want to make cheese or soap, AWESOME, if you like colorful goats, breed them. Most Buyers I deal with could care less if they ever step foot in a show ring, and don't want to spend thousands of dollars on a goat. Though I have had Many Permanent Champion Prairie Wood Goats and a few Superior Genetics and have earned the "Herd of Distinction" award from ADGA. I have always LOVED showing, but also HATED milking. YOU DO YOU is the best strategy, and be proud of your goats whether you have show goats, or have colorful Backyard Pets etc!! If you are interested in seeing some of our herd for sale you can go to www.prairiewoodranch.com, go to our three different pages to view the goats for sale, the Sales Page, Our Senior and Junior Doe page, and the DesertNanny Doe page as this is the first time we will be letting any of them go.
