Palm Valley Animal Society Palm Valley Animal Society (PVAS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, lifesaving leader in the Rio Grande Valley In May 2016, The Laurie P.

Palm Valley Animal Society (PVAS) was founded in 1974 as the Upper Valley Humane Society. The facility, then operated by and located in McAllen, was turned over to the Humane Society by the City of McAllen to carry out the entire operation and functions of the municipal animal facility. In 1981, the Upper Valley Humane Society received a donation of 2.5 acres of land located at 2501 W Trenton Rd i

n Edinburg. This encouraged the subsequent purchase of the adjacent 2.5 acres for 5 acres. Contributions from the surrounding cities and donations from local citizens ($50,000 from Bob Sobel and $100,000 from L.L. Rowan) secured construction on this land, and the facility opened on October 31st, 1983, with 56 dog runs and 60 cat kennels. After much deliberation and consideration, our Board of Directors determined that it would be in the organization's best interest to make significant changes. As a result of these changes, we changed our name from the Upper Valley Humane Society to Palm Valley Animal Center in 2007. Since our inception, we have grown from receiving several hundred animals a year, with 22 dog runs and 9 cat kennels, to receiving more than 40,000 animals a year, with 350 dog runs and 185 cat kennels. Our staff has grown from a few volunteer helpers to over 100 trained professionals. Serving the community for 50 years, our commitment to animals has never wavered, and we look forward to our next 50 years of lifesaving. In 2015, after extensive research and planning, the PVAS Board of Directors broke ground for a new adoption and education facility with the support of community leaders. Andrews Center opened its doors and has been breaking adoption records for Palm Valley Animal Society ever since.

The third and final batch arrived.

A total of 33 animals came in scared, confused, and many in worse condition than the groups before. Their fragile, trembling bodies told silent stories of neglect. Their eyes reflected fear and disconnection, and their fur served as visible proof of prolonged poor living conditions.

As in the days prior, our Admissions Team moved quickly to ensure every pet received vaccines, preventatives, and bloodwork. And while PVAS has handled cases like this many times before, each one leaves a mark.

With this final group, the total number of pets rescued from this single property stands at 60 lives: 38 dogs and 22 cats.

This case may be closed, but their journey is just beginning.

To help undo what these voiceless animals have endured, we need the support of our incredible community. You can be part of their next chapter by adopting, fostering, or donating to help us continue this lifesaving work.

📣Long Term Fostered!📣
Eunice 224773
1 year 11 months old, Shepherd, Dutch mix🐾
189 Days in Shelter
Eunice's notes from December described a happy, energetic girl who loved to zoom around with excitement. But by January, staff began noticing a shift. As time has passed, sadness has crept in. Kennel anxiety took hold, and now Eunice has started kennel spinning, a stress-driven behavior where she jumps in frantic circles day in and day out.

Dutch Shepherds are known for their high energy levels; they need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. The shelter environment is not a permanent home for pets; the constant noise, exposure to the elements, and confinement can have detrimental effects on dogs.
Can you foster Eunice to give her a break from the shelter?

📣Long Term Fostered!📣
Kim 226486
2 year 10 month old, Shepherd Terrier mix🐾
145 Days in Shelter
Kim: shy, curious, gentle, and observant. She once kept quietly to herself during playgroups. But now, kennel stress is settling in. She barks, growls, and has started biting at the kennel door, running the risk of injury, yet retreats in fear when approached. Kim isn’t aggressive; she’s overwhelmed. Shelter life is wearing her down more each day. She needs a calm, safe place to decompress.
Kim's hybrid breed hosts a rich personality matrix, combining intelligence, eagerness to please, energy, and a bold spirit.
Can you adopt or long-term foster Kim and help her feel safe again?
