Romeo's Story — 18 Months Old 🐶 Pending Adoption.

🐾We’ll be learning more about Romeo from his foster family in the coming weeks, but here’s what we know so far: he’s a frienPdly, affectionate boy who likes everyone he meets! Romeo was raised with a small senior dog and a dog-savvy cat. He wasn’t raised with children, so GSGSR would consider placing him in a home with teenagers and a female dog.

🐾Romeo is truly the perfect name for this handsome young boy. He was purchased as a puppy by a young gentleman who loved him deeply. About a year ago, his owner reached out to Garden State German Shepherd Rescue (GSGSR) for help. Because of his living situation, the young man could no longer provide the home Romero deserved.

🐾Over the past year, his owner stayed in touch with GSGSR, hopeful that his circumstances would change. Sadly, life didn’t go as planned, and he made the difficult but selfless decision to surrender Romeo to GSGSR.

🐾This was a hard one for all of us at GSGSR. So often, we receive surrender requests from people who simply no longer want their dog—and while we never judge, this situation was different. Romeo’s owner truly loved him and wanted only the best for him.

🐾Romeo's dad met with Romeo’s foster family, and so knowing that his best friend would be safe, loved, and cared for helped ease his heart. We can’t thank our foster enough for their kindness, compassion, and willingness to open their home to a dog in need. Fosters truly make rescue possible — they are the reason dogs like Romeo never end up in overcrowded shelters.

🐾At Garden State German Shepherd Rescue, we understand that sometimes life can challenge pet parents, even for the most devoted pet owners. That’s why we’re here — to provide the connections between a loving home or shelter and a dog in need. GSGSR makes sure every dog, in our program, gets to live a new life of love and peace.

A note from Rocky's Foster Mom: In the last few weeks the GSGSR team was able to rehome 4 wonderful pups because they had very committed fosters and adopters. Our last available pup, Rocky, was the first pup I fostered and what a great experience and feeling when you find them the perfect home.
Congratulations to all our pups and especially Rocky who holds a special spot in my heart forever 💜.
Rocky was adopted; he can be seen out strolling, in the park, with his new packmate.

🐾Jack has officially gone home, the last of 6 amazing dogs saved by Garden State German Shepherd Rescue.
Each was saved as they were made available to us.
We are thrilled to share that all six are now safe, loved, and in their forever homes. ✨
🐾This wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of our volunteers, fosters, donors, and everyone who shared our posts. From the bottom of our hearts — Thank you ❤️.

🐾 When these dogs came into our care, none of them were spayed or neutered; they had only a rabies shot.
Thanks to your generosity, we were able to get 5 of them fixed and provide them with the vet care they needed.
It truly takes a village to save even one dog; we couldn’t have saved them all without you.❤️💪🐾

🐾We desperately need more foster homes and volunteers. Shepherds are a sensitive and loyal breed — moving them around too often can be very hard on them. That’s why we do our best to meet each dog and match them with the right foster or adoptive home.

🐾Sometimes a foster becomes a “foster fail” — and that’s our favorite kind of failure!

🐾.We have no facility and depend on foster homes Please don’t fret if you weren’t chosen to adopt yet. Each time a new dog enters our program, Garden State German Shepherd Rescue volunteers look through all active applications to ensure the proper dog to family match.

🐾We can’t predict when dogs will enter our program so please keep watching our posts and sharing. We are a 100 percent volunteer organization and there is no payroll. Your donations go to help the dogs.

All the volunteers LOVE Jack but we all have full homes what with our own pups and fosters. He is a sweet, 3-year-old German Shepherd with a heart full of love and nowhere to call home.

Jack’s story is one of hope, heartbreak, and a desperate need for rescue. Garden State German Shepherd Rescue pulled 5 dogs from a home where they were no longer wanted. We saved them, one by one — Moon, Rex, Bella, Mya, and Max — and they've all found loving homes. Rex is even training as a search and rescue dog!

But Jack is still waiting.

He was raised with 4 young children and the other dogs mentioned above. Jack was used for breeding and has spent too much of his life tied up in a yard, longing for attention and freedom. Despite that, he's remained incredibly sweet, friendly, and loyal.

Uber friendly and eager for affection

Great with kids and other dogs he knows

Smart and obedient: knows sit, stay, down, and even responds to “home” when it’s time to go inside

Not neutered yet, but we will cover that

Absolutely gorgeous and devoted — your true best friend

💔 Jack is desperately waiting for someone to open their heart and home. He doesn't deserve to be left behind. He needs out of the yard and into a loving environment ASAP.

Jack is up for immediate foster or adoption.

Jack is a sweet and friendly 3-year-old pup with lots of love to give. He was raised around children and enjoys being part of the family. However, Jack would do best with an experienced dog owner who can help him continue his training—he knows “sit” and “down,” but still needs to learn not to jump up on people when he's excited.

Important Note: Jack must go to a home with NO cats.

If you’re ready to give Jack the structure, love, and guidance he needs, he’ll reward you with loyalty, affection, and be a great companion for life.
