Sunday, November 3rd, 10:00 hrs NY. Webinar on the viability of trailing/ tracking dogs on real cases. The purpose of this class is to discuss the true viability of trailing/ tracking dogs on criminal and missing persons cases. There have been decades of myths built around the use of trailing dogs primarily in the areas of trail age and scent discrimination. Jeff will walk through his three decades of trailing dog experience and give the student a window into the real capabilities of trailing/ tracking dogs.

Trailing dogs are often tested for scent discrimination ability through what is termed "Split Trails". The idea being that multiple people walk from one point to another and then split into different directions. One of them left a scent article behind with their odor on it. When the dog comes in, it is scented on the scent article and is supposed to take the correct trail and find the correct person. But, does this really work?

In training it seems to as this method is used by many trailing aficionados. But what about reality? Reality is double blind, in other words, nobody would know the trail or who the correct person is. On this training day in Iceland I set up four similar double blind trails with four separate "victims". Interestingly, I had the exact same result with all tests.
