It’s that time of year, where the critters are starting to move around. If your dog gets stomped, try this! It works great, I can vouch for it. My daughter’s dog got sprayed by a skunk in the face and mouth, and this took the skunk spray off of him so that you could barely smell it if he was wet. It takes two quarts for an 85 lb dog.

Dynamic duo Ellie and Zeke went home yesterday! They both did great for their owners for their lesson. They will be more doing lessons with Zeke to help shape him into the best pup he can be!

Baby Zeke is working on his impulse control! The lesson learned here is that just because I have food doesn’t mean that you get to take it from me or try to steal it. If you sit politely and look at me instead of my sandwich, I will give you some of your yummy food. Rinse and repeat and Zeke learns that it’s much better to sit and wait that it is to try to just snag whatever he wants when people are eating. Good job, baby Zeke!

Say hi to Zeke, the golden retriever puppy! He’s here for a puppy 10 day sleep away camp. We will be working on crate training, walking on a leash, good manners, the housebreaking schedule, and learning a few basic commands. Zeke lives with Ellie, a super sweet, golden retriever girl that I trained a couple years ago. Ellie will be coming in in a few days for a training brush up. It’s very common when you add a dog to the mix for your other good dogs to regress a little bit. no worries, we are here to help!

A good article on compromise and communication for a household that is struggling with being consistent with training. I see this often, one person is bothered by a dogs behavior, others are fine with it. It’s important that a household works together towards their common goals.

Say hi to the busy 🐝, Charlie! Charlie’s owner has done some training with her, but has struggled with impulse control and having Charlie hold commands. No worries, we can help! Here Charlie is working on staying on place. The idea of the place command is that is a spot for her to lay down and relax and let life go by. Relaxation doesn’t come naturally too many dogs, no problem that’s why we teach them. Charlie is here for a two week, on leash boarding & train. She will be staying with us a week, going home a couple weeks, and then coming back for her final week. This works around some travel plans and helps her get a good start on her training.

Happy Birthday to my first Rottweiler, Arlo! He’s a grand old 7 yrs old today! Arlo is my oldest daughter’s dog now, he happily lives with her little German shorthair pointer.

Stay warm out there! For extra precautions in these abnormal temps, take your pup out to potty on leash. I don’t recommend potty pads but it’s not the worst in this weather, especially for small or very young dogs. Check their paws for damage and be sure to wipe off any salt or ice melt.

Look at this rockstar team! This one of my clients. She has two working line border collies. She has owned border collie mixes before, but they were not to be compared with the drive and energy level of her working line dogs. She is a skilled trainer who has done a phenomenal job on her own. Her dogs struggled with reliability, holding commands, reactivity and overexcitement. We've been working together doing lessons, and she is doing an amazing job. I'm providing the instruction, but she is doing all the good work at home that is leading to her success. This is our fourth session and no, it is not normal to be able to take a dog this far this fast. I am able to with this client because she has already done so much work with her obedience and training. A fellow trainer and friend came out with her cattle dog to help and work as a distraction. Kiowa the cattle dog delights at barking at other dogs. Few things make her as happy. And she stops on command which makes her an excellent training aid.

Many of you have met my Rottweiler girls, Leeta and Zeno. What some of you may not know is I am starting a breeding program with my girls. If all goes well, Leeta will be having puppies in a couple months. If you or anyone you know, is interested in adding a well bred, well raised, health tested Rottweiler to their family, please have them reach out. Puppies will be raised with puppy culture. If you’re not familiar with that, you should definitely check it out. It’s an early neurological stimulation program that helps build a dog that is physically and mentally strong. Puppies will also be started on crate training, house, training, walking on a leash, and other things that just make it so much easier as a new puppy owner. If I could change one thing for every dog, it would be that they are raised with a system like puppy culture. I will offer my lifelong support as their breeder and as a trainer too!
