I cannot believe it's already been seven years 😳 Shep was being trained as a Service Dog for a young boy with severe PTSD after experiencing a tragedy that no child should ever have to go through. It was so bittersweet to watch their bond grow and watch this going boy blossom, turning back into the beautiful young boy he was before his trauma. This family will forever be near and dear to my heart ❤️❤️

Mr. Jim Bowie would like to wish everyone Happy Holidays!!

🖤💙🖤Thanks to your generous donations, Damm K9 Training, LLC. was able to get the first of three of Sgt. Meagan Burke's dogs started in the Board and Train Program - at no cost to the new owners. Jim is with us for obedience training, with the end goal of making him a Therapy Dog.
🖤💙🖤

If you would like to contribute to Sgt. Meagan Burke's fund, I have also attached photos with information on how to help the Burke Family, as well as Sgt. Burke's extremely generous friends who didn't hesitate to take her dogs in upon her tragic passing to avoid any of her dogs ending up in a shelter.
No donation is too small!

Came across these videos from when our Junior Trainer Jace was two-years-old, playing with his dog and sidekick, Remy... The dog who slept with him since he was in a crib, who was never seen further than five feet from her tiny human, and his best friend and partner in crime since day one.
He may have only been two at the time, but even still, if the boy said to "sit" and she got up, he always followed through and re-commanded... Yes, there was a slight learning curve with the German gibberish commands with a pacifier in his mouth, but these two had an unbreakable bond and the crucial mutual understanding between one another ❤️

**PLEASE SHARE**

Please help honor one of our fallen heroes, Sgt. Meagan Burke, who was killed driving home from her shift when she was hit by another vehicle when it went over the median and struck Sgt. Burke’s vehicle head-on.. Burke had been with the Oklahoma Police Department since 2016.

Sgt. Burke was well known for her love of dogs - having rescued two while she was on-duty. Her social media is flooded with photos of her four dogs, Jim Bowie, Batman, Felon, and Frankie, showing just how big a part these dogs played in her life! Frankie was adopted by the breeder where she came from, and friends of Burke’s didn’t think twice about taking the remaining three dogs in, some permanently and some temporarily, to ensure they wouldn’t wind up at a shelter.

Damm K9 Training, LLC. is working with the wonderful men and women who took these dogs in, as well as Sgt. Burke’s family, to get all three dogs trained, as well as making Burke’s goal of training Jim Bowie and Batman to be Therapy Dogs to help those who can benefit from the joy that dogs bring to everyone, much like their Momma, Sgt. Meagan Burke, had always been truly passionate about doing herself both on and off duty.

To help make this possible and help the new owners with the cost of training, we are reaching out to the community. An account has been set up for Sgt. Burke’s dogs, and all donations will go towards the cost of their training, as well as providing the new owners with the training aids and equipment needed (such as leashes, collars, vests for the Therapy Dogs, etc.)

If you would like to make a donation, you may do so in a number of ways:

Attention DK9T Fam ‼️

Damm K9 Training LLC will not be holding any training on Tuesday, October 25th, and there may be a delay in responses to messages. My Junior Trainer and son, Jace, has surgery scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Please keep my little man in your thoughts and prayers tomorrow!!
He’s a brave boy with nerves of steel and is tough as nails… but his Momma, not so much.

Those currently enrolled in this month's Board and Train will receive a text message with the contact information for my training assistant, in the event that there's a pressing issue that can't wait, you will be able to get in touch with us.

I will post an update sometime Tuesday afternoon/evening 😊

PSA for all my pet parents‼️ while those little keys with the paw prints on them are very cute, a very valuable lesson was learned today and all I can say is DON’T!!! Clearly they are cheaply made (got it at Lowe’s if that matters) and, well, this is end result 😔

📌📌 and PLEASE, nobody else ask if I have a spare key 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ yes, of course I do, but the problem here is that the other half of said key is still stuck in the key hole. So whether I have 1 or 37 spare keys, they are less than useless to me at this very moment.

They say you should always start your day by making your bed... Well whoever "they" are, do they know that a Mal puppy and German Shepherd puppy can completely undo a beautifully made bed in less than .0351 seconds? .. I'd have to say no... No they do not 😵‍💫🥴

‼️CONGRATS‼️
Destiny and Ranger have not only completed their AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Test, but also just passed their AKC CGC (Canine Good Citizen) Test 🎯 Destiny did her homework religiously in between our weekly private training sessions, and their performance at each training session, and certainly on their testing day!
Ranger was iffy around dogs at the very beginning, AND the very first time he's been to Lowe's was for his CGC Test... these two did AMAZING and I am so proud of all the hard work and dedication put into practicing outside of their weekly training sessions.
These two have a very bright future ahead of them!

Miss Molly has just completed her six-weeks of training, testing and passing both the AKC's STAR Puppy Test and CGC (Canine Good Citizen) Test, and has made tremendous strides in her reactivity towards other dogs!! At Molly's initial evaluation, I had the chance to see her reaction when seeing another dog even at a great distance... Her handler struggled BADLY just to keep her own feet planted on the ground because Molly was lunging towards the other dog, and was very persistent while doing it! Molly's owner sent me this video from last night and it's a total 180 from how she was when she first started her training program. Molly and her owner are doing absolutely amazing!! I was also sent this photo, along with this message from Molly's owner :)

**Video in comments**

"We are so proud of how far Molly has come in these last 6 weeks of training with Karen. Before, she was very reactive any time she even heard a dog let alone see one walking past her. Now she is able to sit and/or walk past them with little to no reaction. She is loving her morning walks at the park now. We can't wait to see where else Karen's knowledge and skill can help us take Molly!"

Two years later and still killing it!! These two were vigilant about doing their homework in between our weekly training sessions, and continued reinforcing they're training even after completion... These two pups couldn't even go for a short walk without freaking out over everything (and sometimes nothing at all).
Amazing work y'all, and congratulations! I can't wait to see pictures of the new addition ❤️

"With the skills we learned while training with Karen Ann Dammon we are now teaching our pups to heal next to the stroller before our baby arrives in 3 months."

Board and Train Updates:
I apologize to everyone, but I am having issues with getting training videos from week one to upload to my computer so I am still working on troubleshooting that problem, however, I do have a few photos that I just so happen to take from training sessions with a couple of the dogs (only two out of four dogs though 😔), so I wanted to go ahead and at least get those posted while I'm working on the video issues.
Thunder: 6-month old GSD working on some obedience and impulse control
Hopper: 4-month old Aussiedoodle working on obedience and foundation training

I will continue working on troubleshooting this issue I'm having with my videos so I can get them up as soon as possible 😊

Ozzy is doing great after his four-week Puppy/Foundation Board and Train! He was such a fun pup to work with and has overcome so many hurdles with his confidence!!

"Karen,
I am writing to let you know how pleased I am with the results of Ozzy's training. As a result of your hard work, he is much more calm, even as a 9-month old puppy. One of the issues I had going forward was his timidity and skittishness with new people, especially with men. Now he has a lot more confidence and is able to walk up to almost everyone without freaking, or being skittish or timid. Just letting them pet him. Another behavior that is on the extinction list because of your work is his jumping on people when he is excited or in greeting someone coming new. Now he is not perfect yet, but the jumping on people has been reduced by at least 85-90% since returning home from his Board and Train.

All in all, I am thrilled with the results and consider it money very well spent. I am looking forward to working with you in getting him certified as a Therapy/Service dog.
Thank you for all you have done
Johnna Ainsworth"

Please keep Edmond PD and the family and friends of the fallen officer in your thoughts and prayers. This is such a devastating loss for so many 🖤💙🖤

Please private message me if you are interested in making a donation to the family of the fallen officer, who left behind a wife and two children. Non-monetary donations, such as meals, are also welcome. If you would like to donate non-monetary items, they can be brought to the training facility so I can deliver them to the family.

Our Four-Week Board and Train spots are now FULL for July 22 and August 19 start dates!
There are still a couple of openings for September 23 and October 14 start dates. Board and Train slots have been filling up very quickly, so reserve your spot TODAY!!

This is Bo**er, a four-month old Vizsla Mix, currently enrolled in our Puppy Board and Train Program. Bo**er came to Damm K9 Training for Puppy/Foundation Training, and to fix some pretty bad habits - one being persistent jumping that left her owner buying bandaids in bulk from being scratched so much.
Bo**er has come such a long way, and I couldn't be more proud of how quickly she is mastering all of her Obedience, and controlling her compulsive jumping!

Remember Miss Foxy? The beautiful German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois who, when I first met her, was highly reactive to people and dogs and was NOT ok with anybody inside her house, at her door, or even near her house. Well, here she is, week five of intense training to tackle her insecurities and lack of confidence... this is what her owners sent me today, and what they had to say:

"We just cannot believe it. After five weeks of training, we went from a dog who would bark uncontrollably at every door knock or doorbell and struggling to restrain her or get her to settle down with any guest in our home, to a dog who has just let two repairmen into our home without so much as a peep! We used the commands and methods taught to us throughout our Private Training sessions to let her know that the visitors were welcome in our home and were in no way a threat to us, and she is literally ended up falling asleep while they were still here."

Sooo tornado siren testing is no longer on the third Saturday of the month... We're gonna be out here just winging it now? Would have been kinda nice to have received that memo before going out and trying to work with a super sensitive and highly reactive dog earlier today.

Definitely going to rate that one 1/10: I do NOT recommend 🚫🥴🚫

06/25/2022

It's way more important to have an end goal. A plan is important as well, but no two dogs are the same; and no dog acts, feels, or performs the exact same each day (or even the minute). Just like people, a dog's mood, energy, focus, and motivation changes and fluctuates. When working with your dog, always remember to train the dog in front of you at that time; not the dog you were training a couple hours ago. Keep to your training plan, but don't set unrealistic expectations.

Also, to address a question I've gotten a couple times, while on the topic of expectations... If you do a training session with your dog, we'll call him "Frank" (🤣 it's late and that's the only name I can think of at the moment🤷‍♀️), and you got Frank to do a perfect "down-stay" and beautiful Recall, that's FANTASTIC! You're so proud (as you should be), so a few hours later you take him to the same spot for another training session. You put Frank in a "down" and start walking away, but you don't even make it two steps before you hear him coming up behind you. THAT'S NORMAL. The concept doesn't automatically make sense to him simply because he happened to do it once or twice. It doesn't mean he's being defiant - maybe he's thinking "well last time she walked away, I had to run to catch up to her," or "OMG that leaf just moved, I must check it out." Just like when you first taught Frank to "sit," REPETITION and CONSISTENCY is a must! Put him back where he was and do it again without going quite as far as before. Eventually it clicks.
If you're one of my tracking/scentwork clients, just go ahead and add fire and a tsunami (maybe even add a little avalanche in there somewhere) to this image because you have already learned that the "expectation vs. reality" ratio is unreal and changes by the second 🥴
