It's Kuzco's "no-thoughts, all vibes" stare and toof for us 🥹🦷✨

Here's hoping a forever family is on his 2025 bingo card, because this boy has had a rough go at it! In September 2023 Kuzco was only a puppy when he was first surrendered into our care by his family.

Since then, he's been adopted and returned not once, not twice but three times. He's now 1.5 years old, a staff favorite, an absolute baby and a literal ray of freaking sunshine. He's also a triple threat and is kid, cat AND dog friendly IF the dog is super playful, the cat is chill, and the kids are sturdy. This boy likes to PLAY!🤪

Just a few weeks ago, Edna was scared and uncertain with nothing but hope and a wire we placed in her broken jaw holding her together.

Look at our sweet girl now — safe, warm, and cozied up in her foster home. This precious girl is soaking up all the snuggles and holiday cheer while she waits for her forever family.🥹🫶

⚠️ Sensitive content warning⚠️

There's not really a "Let's circle back after the holidays!" when you're in rescue. Not when pets like 7 month old Zora depend on you..💔

Zora arrived earlier this afternoon from Alton, IL Animal Care and Control after being found running as a stray, carrying the emotional and physical pain of a severe neck wound caused by an embedded collar. Judging by the depth and size of the wound, it’s heartbreakingly clear this collar was likely fitted when she was just a tiny puppy.

The smell of rotting flesh filled the air of our vet suite while our medical team worked quickly to clean and close the gash under her throat. While she was under, she was also spayed, microchipped, heartworm tested (negative, yay!), and brought up to date on her vaccines. For all she’s endured in her short life, she no longer has to worry about anything but healing — we’ll take care of the rest.

Zora’s fresh start is made possible by donors like you. As the year comes to a close, we invite you to give in the spirit of Christmas, not just for Zora, but for every pet who’s crossed our threshold this year and for those who will find their way to us in 2025.

Before Metro East Humane Society established in 1986, our founding members were a group known as the Madison County Coalition Against Pound Seizure, which formed in 1985 to end the selling of unclaimed pets at animal control for lab research.

Since successfully putting an end to that practice, we've expanded our programs and services but kept the same mission in mind - to improve the lives of pets and people in our community.🤜🤛

2025 will mark 40 years of commitment to our community as an animal welfare organization, and we invite you to celebrate with us at our 40th Anniversary Gala presented by Purina in the grand hall of The Olde Wicks Factory in Highland, IL!🥂

Buddy has been having the worst luck since coming to us in March this year, and all he wants is a forever home for the holidays!🏡❄

He loves a good nap and relaxing on the couch in the evenings to watch TV. While his foster works from home during the day, he positions himself in the window to keep watch of the wildlife, neighbors, and delivery people. While his foster is away... we're pretty sure he just sleeps the entire time.😴

Buddy is great on walks and quick to adapt to any corrections, especially with training treats. He's so silly when it comes to play time and loves to roll around in the grass. He may look very stoic, but he's just a big love bug and a softie, and he needs your help! Please share if you are not in a place to adopt!
