Exercise is very important for a healthy hamster, both physically and mentally. Roborovsky hamsters, known for their speed, can run up to 2mph. In just one night, they can cover distances of up to 6 miles!

Side note: we do not recommend keeping multiple hamsters together, however, these sisters were just weaned and can remain together for a short time.

A common belief is that rats are aggressive, dirty animals. This couldn't be farther from the truth! These highly intelligent, adorable creatures are very loving and affectionate and keep themselves very clean. They do best in a pair or group and can even be taught tricks!

🐠 Fish Fact Friday 🐠
Even though we don't sell saltwater fish in store anymore, this is too cool not to share. These tiny, moving appendages are called "tube feet" and are essentially tiny suction cups. They use them to move, grip different surfaces, and catch food. This particular starfish is a Chocolate Chip star and lives in our saltwater tank at the shop.

This beauty is a Leopard Ctenopoma. It natural environment in central Africa is slow moving water with plenty of roots and vegetation to hide among. These fish can reach 4-6 inches and would thrive with other peaceful similarly sized fish.

Little known fact: Parrotfish are actually hybrids! Blood red parrotfish were first created in Taiwan using a mix of Central American cichlids, and now come in several colors, including red, purple, and yellow. Blue tiger (or polar blue) and snow white parrotfish are a mix of king kong parrotfish and convict cichlid.

Quakers make great pets to the right home. These incredibly intelligent birds need a lot of mental stimulation to keep from being destructive. Toys, puzzles, and outside cage time are essential for keeping these birds entertained.

This guy (or girl, we aren't sure yet) can be picky about who he trusts, but would make a great companion for a single person or a couple. He's not the biggest fan of small humans. He doesn't say any words yet, but he does very good impressions of a cockatiel and a guinea pig, he was just a little camera shy!

Happy World Turtle Day! Russian Tortoise love the occasional dandelion flower as a treat. (as long as you know it hasn't been sprayed with anything) Also, the dandelion greens can be a great addition to their regular salad. #tortoise #noahsark #petshop

It's no secret that bearded dragons LOVE bugs! Depending on its size, a beardie can eat crickets, mealworms, superworms, waxworms, hornworms, silkworms, and dubia roaches, all of which we regularly have available at the store. Stop in and we can help you pick out some delicious snacks for your scaly friend!

Our Story

In the year 2000, a little girl named Molly dreamed of one day having a pet shoppe better than the rest in her town. Even at the young age of 12, she knew she could give critters the care they deserve, and her father knew it too. Inspired by the twinkle in her eye and heart on her sleeve, Gayland Bourland left his career in furniture to make his daughters wish a reality. Almost two decades later, it’s no surprise that Molly, now with a degree in animal science, has joined her father in running Noah’s Ark Pet Shoppe. Even her son, Elijah, is in on the gig, providing love and care to the future pets of Effingham. With amphibians, birds, and furballs galore, we have everything you need to make your child’s dream come true.
