Pine Barrens Animal Rescue Project

Pine Barrens Animal Rescue Project Cats seem to be everywhere around our forest either wild or dropped off. We are trying to save them from the shelter and give them a new life.

We found a group of cats that were left behind when the owner left to fend for themselves.

This is a repeat, but new viewers may have missed it. 😸

What’s the difference between a free-roaming cat and a feral cat?

All ferals are free-roaming cats but not all free-roaming cats are ferals. To become truly feral (rather than feral- acting) takes multiple generations, without close contact with humans, for this domestic species to revert to a β€œwild” lifestyle. Most free-roaming cats in our region are not feral but are loosely β€œowned” outdoor pets such as barn cats or neighborhood cats, abandoned or lost indoor former pets, and their progeny. Because even a feral cat can become tame, the relative status of individual cats can change throughout their lifetimes. This graphic from The Feral Cat Project of Washington State shows how that works:

The cats are getting more comfortable and coming out more when we are there. The more they come out and get used to us, the faster we can hope to find some of them a loving place to live. Some are feral and definitely hide but others we can touch them or pet with a stick we have. Slowly but surely.
The side run is almost open. It will have a Ladder with shelving and a cedar tree along with other things to keep them happy. We needed more room for 14 cats. This is a smaller run (6 x 4), but it will let them have different options and scenery to get some fresh air.
We also have a handicapped cat amongst the group and her sponsored name is Edna whom we originally called Sway. She has a hip issue but she liked to get around more than most of them so we needed to put in some ramps and that is why we have the ladder open for her to jump down. Hope fully we will reconfigure the shelving on the one wall to make it easier for her and all of the other kitties.
Again, we couldn't do this without our wonderful handful of volunteers that take care of their daily needs, my husband for putting up with me and always coming up with a new build or idea that needs his skills and of course all of you. Without you we would not be able to feed them, have litter, supplies, items donated to build things, amazon wish lists and monetary gifts to go to what is needed to keep this going.
Again, if you can help by donating through here, Venmo, Amazon, giving items or just sharing this post it is so greatly appreciated. They deserved a second chance, and you are helping to give them one. We can also use more volunteers to help feeding and cleaning if you are interested, please contact me.

I had a 10 foot ladder donated and some wood. We are brainstorming to build for the catio. The ladder was cut in half. The bottom parts will also be used. If anyone has wood planks or pieces we can use for all of the sections and shelving we would appreciate it.
We are also looking for L brackets for shelves in the outside wall. Thanks!

Good morning everyone ! If you can help we could use some litter. 14 cats go through quite a bit of it. What goes in must come out! πŸ˜† I am attaching the Amazon link. Wewould prefer unscented or lightly scented and not clay if at all possible but anything will help. Please share if you can and as always any help is appreciated.

Would anyone have any extra fence wire or chicken wire we could use to help with gaps on the new pen?

Meet Trixie, our new 3-year-old foster dog. This energetic little lady is only 7 pounds.

Trixie has been an absolute joy in her foster home, getting along great with the other dogs and always ready to play. She’s such a happy, friendly girl, and we know she’s going to make the perfect addition to any family looking for a fun, high-energy companion.

If you’re searching for a pint-sized pup who will bring endless enthusiasm and affection to your life, Trixie is the one! More info soon.

Instead of thinking about it for 10 hours, do it in 2!Definitely a workout! Now we need help putting the fence up.

We have caught another cat. That will make 15 in our little shed and run. We are going to buy another run from marketplace so they have more space.
We are asking if you can to please donate for us to help build a bigger area. It should be about $300 total if we shop wisely and I usually do. 😊
The other run will be 4 x 6 and we need to get pavers, a roof and the cat door. Please share this and if you can donate anything it would be greatly appreciated. I have Venmo or GoFund me.

There are a few more cats in the barn and then we work on getting them homes. We have 3 boys that love to hang together that are starting to warm up to us fairly quickly. Hopefully they will want a home, store or place they can be loved. I will share their pictures this week. Thank you again for any help and/or sharing.

Yesterday was a bittersweet day that Timmy and Eloise went to their new homes. They were only a few weeks old when they were found and we found two wonderful homes for them to live a very happy life.
Thank you very much for everyone’s help to get these kittens to here. They will still need to be fixed when old enough and will most definitely be loved and spoiled by the wonderful people that opened up their hearts and homes. ❀️

Rescue Post: A Community Effort to Save 14 Cats Update

Recently, a dedicated group of volunteers banded together to rescue a group of cats who had lost their owner and were sadly unwanted by the family. With the incredible help from wildlife experts and local TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) teams, we managed to safely catch all fourteen cats and provide them with the medical care they need.

Our volunteers generously shared their time, expertise, and donated an old shed, which we've transformed into a temporary safe haven for these beautiful cats. However, this is just the beginning of our journey. It will take time to assess each cat's temperament, determine who is bonded, and find them the perfect forever homes.

We are in need of ongoing support and donations to continue this vital work. Please visit our page for information and daily updates. Every donation, no matter the size, is greatly appreciated. You can also check out our GoFundMe page and Amazon wishlist for specific items we need.

Additionally, we've noticed that the cats love spending time outdoors, so we're planning to create an additional run for them. If you have any chain link fencing or can volunteer to help build a catio, we would be incredibly grateful.

Thank you for your continued support in making a difference in these cats' lives! We can’t save all cats, but for those we do, it means the world to them.
