Pet Welfare is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, no-kill animal shelter located on Eglin Air Force Base in Northwest Florida. Pet Welfare has been in operation since 1982 and works to rehome cats and dogs in the Florida Panhandle, with a focus on supporting the military community by easing the hardship associated with surrendering the family cat or dog due to circumstances out of their control. We know it’s been a wild week with Florida’s unexpected snowstorm, but here’s a great reason to get out this weekend: Our Pet Welfare Adoption Event is happening this Saturday, and these sweet faces are waiting to meet you! 🐕💛

As our volunteers get back to “almost” normal ops following the record snowfall❄️, we have found that our wet cat food supply needs replenishing.

If you’re able to chip in for a can or two, we’d appreciate it.

Our cats are only slightly picky: Friskies, Nine Lives and Fancy Feast are favorites, but we’ll take anything.

See the comments below for our wish list(s) or, if you’re in the neighborhood tomorrow (once the roads are clear) you can drop off.

We’ll be open Friday (base permitting) and Saturday and back to normal operations next week!

🌟 Help Nala, the Queen of Pet Welfare! 🌟

Meet Nala, our beloved princess at Pet Welfare on Eglin. She’s the queen of comfort, lounging on her pillow throne and demanding endless belly rubs. But now, she needs your help.

Nala was recently diagnosed with a tumor in her paw and needs surgery in February. As a completely volunteer-run organization, we rely on donations to keep our shelter running and care for all our dogs. This unexpected expense is a big challenge, but together, we can help Nala get the care she needs.

Comet has had lots of training but will need someone who can work with him while he continues to learn. Comet does well with certain dogs after a proper meet and greet. Meet Bolt, the one eyed wonder!
Bolt is a happy, healthy and very energetic male dog! Through no fault of his own, he is 90-100% blind in his left eye. This is due to his previous owner’s neglect. After being newly blind Bolt struggled and was returned to his previous shelter. Given his disposition at the time he was put on the euthanize list. Pet Welfare worked with the Mylo Foundation to save Bolt. Despite what he has been through he is still a puppy at heart, very friendly, and loves to play. Bolt does well with other dogs(aside from some food aggression towards other dogs), and he has not been introduced to cats. We do know that he is very people and treat-oriented and would love to meet you! If you are interested in adopting Bolt, please contact us. He can't wait to meet you!

Meet Rocco!

He's an 2 year old jack russel Mix looking for his forever home! Rocco is a bit of a shy boy at first but warms up quickly once he gets to know you. He reportedly did well with kitties in his previous home but has not been formally cat tested. Due to his shy nature, he would do best with older dog savvy children. Rocco could use a brush up with basic obedience and socialization. As he has spent time in a shelter, a refresher in potty training would be recommended.

Rocco is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and on heartworm and flea preventative.

Did you know? Today would have been Betty Whites 103 Birthday!
Betty White was a devoted animal advocate who supported many animal welfare organizations. She was a trustee for the Morris Animal Foundation and a board member for the American Humane Society. She also supported Guide Dogs for the Blind and the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association.

🐾 Sleepover Success Stories! 🐾

Two of our amazing pups, Rocco (pictured first) and Ziggy (pictured second), recently had sleepovers with wonderful families—and we couldn’t wait to share how they did!

💙 Rocco’s Sleepover Adventures 💙
Rocco had quite the sleepover adventure! Here’s what his foster family had to say:
“He loved the soft bed and even swam in my pool—though it was chilly! He was so happy in the water that I had to jump in after him because he didn’t want the fun to end. He was such a sweetheart and followed me around the house everywhere, wanting to stay close. And he absolutely loved riding in the car!”

Rocco, one of our longest residents, just wants to be close to his humans. While he might need a little patience and understanding at first, he’s so worth it. Rocco would thrive in a calm, loving home with older, dog-savvy kids who can go slow and earn his trust.

✨ Ziggy’s Holiday Foster Update ✨
“Ziggy was our holiday foster, and he brought so much joy to our home! He’s a snuggle champion, full of energy, and absolutely loves playing with any type of ball. (He sometimes forgets to give it back because he’s having so much fun!) He slept soundly through the night, cuddled up close, and would make a fantastic addition to an active family with kids and/or other pets.”

It is with a heavy heart that we had to say goodbye to our gentle giant, Drax. He was diagnosed with an aggressive bone cancer in Dec. Surrounded by his family and volunteers, he was set free of his failing body.

Drax came to the shelter with his brother Cooper. When his brother was adopted, he sat waiting for his forever family. Well, he found it. He spent his last month being spoiled with home cooked meals, never being alone, and going on so many car rides.

Run free our sweet boy. You truly were one of a kind, an angel dog on earth.
