Wishing Our Clients a Happy and Safe Easter!

It feels like Christmas has only just begun to fade and now Easter is on our doorstep. With some extra days off and mild weather, this is a lovely time of year to enjoy the outdoors with your pets. We hope all our Mitchell Veterinary Clinic clients and their pets have a safe and happy Easter break.

Remember, dogs are renowned for finding Easter eggs and what starts as a delicious treat can end up causing some serious health issues. The problem is, dogs are not able to metabolize theobromine, a derivative of caffeine found in chocolate. Ingestion can lead to an increased heart rate, vomiting, diarrhea, agitation, tremors, seizures and even death. Cooking chocolate and dark chocolate are the most toxic but ingestion of ANY chocolate can be a problem.

Animals live for decades. They are not temporary. Make sure you are willing to commit and be willing to adjust your life to fit them in. If you are not able to 100% support and care for them, then DO NOT GET ONE FOR CHRISTMAS. Shelters are full and the abandoned and starving animal population in our community is heartbreaking. If you really love animals, only adopt one if you can keep them their entire life.

One specific set of production practices will not work for all cattle producers, but personal experience, Beef Quality Assurance program principles, and professional judgement serve as valuable resources for proper animal handling and care.
