DONā€™T FORCE ME TO BE SOCIAL!
It may be really disappointing and frustrating when our dogs are not the social beings we expected them to be.

Many believe dogs should just naturally get along with other dogs, after all theyā€™re the same species.

Some believe the ā€œunsociableā€ dog has a behaviour problem that needs to be ā€œfixedā€.

Early, appropriately timed and correct socialisation is vitally important, but sometimes despite all of this, some dogs are just not that sociable.

Sometimes this can be improved, especially if the cause is from a negative experience, but genetics, breed tendencies, individual personalities, health and age all contribute to tolerance and sociability, which also change throughout life.

If we, as a human species, donā€™t get along with everyone we meet, how can we expect our dogs to?

Do we label every person that has an argument, doesnā€™t make friends with everyone they meet, doesnā€™t like every other person, prefers not to socialise - as having a problem that needs to be fixed?

Why is it so easy to accept that every individual person is different than to accept that every individual dog is different?

When we have done what we can to improve our dogsā€™ social skills, we need to accept and acknowledge our dogs for the individuals they are, allow and respect their choice of whether to be sociable or not and never force interactions that a dog is not comfortable with.

In honor of ā€œBlack Dogs Dayā€.. I honor some of the best Iā€™ve known..and most challenging to photograph! Hard to believe that a color can be a deterrent for an animal, but itā€™s a fact! Often misinterpreted do to hard to read expressions, they often get passed up in shelters and other animals even avoid them!

Our Story

I became a certified Pet Sitter in 2002 in El Dorado County. Iā€™ve been blessed to work with many people and their beloved pets and livestock. Eventually I began to work with Boxer Rescue, Pit bull rescue, all breed rescue and horse rescue, decided to learn more about dogs in particular which led me to earn my Canine Behavior Consultant certification through Marin Humane Society in 2008. I love and understand animals. Dogs stole my heart, and the need to help them decided my path.

My services include Private mobile training, dog walking and board and train services. I became a AKC certified Canine Good Citizen Trainer and Evaluator as a result of working with Service Dogs in Training, seeing many fall short, and so now I offer CGC readiness and testing. Recently weā€™ve worked with a NPO for the local shelter, Friends of the EDC Shelter. Weā€™ve had lots of fun and success working with dogs at risk and hard to adopt dogs.

I enjoy meeting new dogs and their people, I continue to learn from other trainers, seminars and from my daily encounters with new and exciting situations.

Call for a consultation! I look forward to working with you and your dogs. Our Instagram is @animalogicdt and we welcome all followers for warm hearted photo fun!
