Fireworks can be scary for many dogs. Here are some tips to keep your pup calm:
* Create a safe haven in your home
* Play calming music or white noise
* Provide plenty of exercise beforehand
* Tire them out with a mental stimulation toy
If your dog struggles with fireworks anxieties, consider enrolling them in a desensitization training program.
Celebrate responsibly and make sure your dog has a relaxing and safe 4th of July!

We here at Bryant's K9 Academy would like to take today as a day to recognize those who have given the ultimate sacrifice to our country. Be it with Public service through the Police, Fire or EMS services., or through service with the Military. Within these valent ranks from the select few who have served, is another unique group know as Dog Handlers. These men and women have the privilege of serving with a K9 Partner. These teams have been extreme assets within our country and communities. Many times we forget the bond that is made between the Handler and the dog that helps them. Today we are going to showcase one such team,

CPL Kory Duane Wiens, of the 94th Mine Dog Detachment, 5th Engineer Battalion, 1st Engineer Brigade of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and his partner, Cooper. Cpl Wiens was named after his grandfather who was a dog handler in the Korean war. Cooper was a Labrador retriever. Wiens and Cooper made up a specialized search detachment trained to find fi****ms, ammunition and explosives. Being on a specialized search team means more training, and Cooper, who was no more than 4 years old, did his job without a leash. Cooper was Wiens’ first military working dog, and Wiens was Cooper’s first handle. While on patrol in Muhammad Sath, Iraq, they were both killed in action July 7 2007. At that time they were the first working dog team to be KIA since the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan had begun. They were laid to rest together on July 18 2007.

The sacrifice that was made by this team was just one example of hundreds that have been made across all forms of service, Be it Public or Military, So please take a moment today and remember those who have given everything for our country.
