As summer comes to an end hot temperature seem to still be at an all time high. Affecting everyone including our furry companions. As we go on in our regular routine with our dogs we have to remember that they can be subject to several health dangers during the summer, from heatstrokes to dehydration to paw pad burns, and sunburns. Below are some tips to remember to keep them safe and healthy as we take them out to daily walks.
When going out for a walk we have to remember that sidewalks and asphalt are hotter than the reading temperatures. Walking on grass is always a better option. Therefore is better to schedule daily walks during the fresh hours of the morning, or cooler evening hours. This will help reduce the chances of them getting pavement burn ๐พ
-recommend not walking your pet between the hours of 10am-6p-
Hydration is key to keep them going on walks or playing outside with them. Make sure you always have a fresh supply of water for your fur buddy. Remember to Carry portable water bottle or portable bowls for them.
Protect your dog from the sun. Dogs can get sunburnt, just like humans! If you think your doggie could be exposed to strong sunlight consider getting some dog sunscreen. Sunscreen should be applied on sensitive body areas from nose to top of the ears to the belly area.
Heatstroke is a life-threatening which happens when a dog temperature is extremely elevated due to exposure to excessive heat. Signs that can tell you if your dog is having a heatstroke are excessive panting, dry or sticky gums, abnormal gum color, rapid heart rate, vomiting and lethargic or disoriented. If you suspect your dog might be having a heatstroke provide shade and water and contact your veterinarian. ๐ถ๐พ
