Huckleberry was born in a puppy mill, sent to a pet store, then sold to someone for a profit. Due to the lack of proper breeding standards, being sent to a pet store when he was too young, and not receiving proper vet care, Huckleberry became very sick. His new family brought him to a local vet for treatment. Due to the severity of his illness, Huckleberry needed to be admitted for I.V. fluids and treatment. Sadly, his family never came back for him. They abandoned him. That’s when a local rescue stepped in. Huckleberry was given proper vet care, went to a wonderful foster home where he received lots of love and then he was adopted. Huckleberry became a “spokes dog” in the fight against puppy mills. He painted pictures with his paws which were then auctioned off to help fight puppy mills. Upon Huckleberry’s death, a promise was made to carry on his name and save lives. So Huckleberry Hound Dog Rescue of El Paso was formed.
Huckleberry Hound Dog Rescue of El Paso is a 501(c)3 non profit, no kill dog rescue that takes in homeless, abandoned, abused and neglected dogs. We are a foster based rescue. Volunteer "foster homes" take in and care for the dogs. We spay/neuter, vaccinate, microchip and rehabilitate the dogs and when ready, we adopt the dogs to loving, forever homes and families.
