We must change the way we view muzzles. Knowledge is power ❤️

“Repeat after me. Muzzled dogs are NOT BAD DOGS.

Muzzled dogs have good humans.

Muzzled dogs can have more experiences because they are managed. Their quality of life is INCREASED because of the muzzle.

Muzzled dogs can still have treats.

Muzzled dogs are not miserable.

Muzzled dogs are muzzled for ALL KINDS OF REASONS. Not just aggression. Maybe they eat too much stuff off the ground and get sick. Maybe they play too rough. Maybe they over react when startled. Maybe they want to eat squirrels. Maybe they need to learn better social skills. Not all dogs in a muzzle have a bite history, some have them on to prevent that in the first place. Sometimes the muzzle is more for the HUMAN than the DOG because it allows them to feel more confident. Big dogs, small dogs, and all breeds and sizes need muzzles sometimes. It is not a breed specific tool.

Muzzled dogs are GOOD DOGS WITH GREAT HUMANS who are setting their dog up to not fail. Judging a dog in a muzzle and their owner is the same as judging someone for wearing a helmet. They are choosing safety and being proactive and it takes WORK to get your dog to a level that they are happily working and walking around in a muzzle so kudos to the humans and dogs I work with who put that time in to better their dogs lives.

If you see a dog in a muzzle, don’t stare, don’t ask rude questions, just say “nice job, great looking dog!” And carry on. Believe me, you will have just made that humans day.”

fun fact friday🤓
did you know.. Dogs dream just like we do depending on their size. Small dogs actually have more dreams than big dogs. That’s because they have similar sleeping patterns and brain activities to that of humans.🐶💤

Are you planning on adding a puppy to your family this Christmas? Book your training now to learn how to teach your puppy to become the best version of themselves. Start off your relationship on the right paw!

Happy training

During this time of year, many families open up their homes and hearts to new pets! 🎁🎄🐕❤

While it is exceptionally exciting for children to wake up to a new puppy on Christmas morning, there are some things we really need to remember to avoid the unfortunate trend that shelters see in the Spring as those gifts start turning into adolescent dogs that become big, rowdy, destructive, and a little out of control!

Oh, Puppies :) They are so cute and fun, as well as the starting point of building a well rounded dog. These little ones won't be little for long, so let's be proactive in our relationship to raise them right and into the dog you want!

Working on potty training is a no brainer for folks - everyone gets a puppy and starts working really hard on creating a routine and distinction of what time and where to potty so that they teach this growing little dog how NOT to be an adult dog using the bathroom in the house. Besides potty training, however, lots of people struggle with the blurred line of what is OK to allow behavior wise with their pup and what isn't, because we think "he's just a puppy." It's important to realize that, just like potty training, your puppy won't teach himself what to do - you have to! Puppies don't just "grow out of" puhsy behaviors.

Remember, you are actually raising a dog - not a puppy - so the behaviors you allow now are things you will continue to see as they grow up. Make sure you arn't encouraging things you don't want in an adult dog, like jumping up, nipping or biting, crying for attention, or sleeping in bed. Even things like constantly clobbering (trying to play with) the older dog in the house or chasing the cat should not be seen as endearing behaviors, but opportunities to teach your puppy the proper way to be around animals.

You are creating long standing habits for your young dog by what you do and don't allow - make sure you arn't encouraging things you wouldn't want from them as an adult dog! No puppy excuses! :)

For those of you that are new around here, I’m Cristy, founder and owner of Canine Domain!

I’ve been training dogs and their owners in the Southwest region for over six years. I believe that training comes down to humans understanding canine body language and their characteristics.

Along the way, I noticed many dogs were struggling with fear of other dogs, while their owners struggled to control and understand why their dog was reacting in certain ways.

This is when I realized there wasn’t a place where disorderly or mischievous dogs, that had been kicked out of their prior daycares, could go and learn how to properly engage with others.

So, in September 2018, I founded Canine Domain! An indoor/outdoor facility where we help shape misunderstood dogs, and have found that the best way to understand a dog is through observation and interaction with others.

It serves as a one stop shop for all dog training needs: socialization, Day Camp, boarding, group classes, and one on one training!

Have any questions for me? Drop a comment or DM us with any questions!
