Are you looking for your new best buddy?

Maybe it’s me!?

I’m Buddy! I’m a 4 month old yellow lab who recently came to Illinois from Texas. I visited the vet who said that I’m 26 lbs and a very healthy puppy who will grow to be a large breed dog. I currently live with 2 large dogs and children who I do well with, even with the female who doesn’t love sharing her house. They’re all my best buds and I do great with them!

I am not fully potty trained yet but working hard to get there and will be a rockstar in no time with routine. I am a smart guy and have already learned to sleep overnight in my crate and have never had an accident.

I’m still young so I love to chew but have done an amazing job with chewing on my toys and not the furniture!

Do you love to walk? So do I! I also love napping in the sun and cuddling with my humans.

Being a lovable boy, I would do well with children or other dogs or both in my forever home!

My foster mom says I’m the goodest boy that will make a great addition to my furever family!

🐶Meet Randall 🐶

Randall is the dog you will forever judge all other dogs by.

He got a second chance at life and he knows it. He puts his little nose to yours, looks deep in your eyes, and tells you so.

He’s approx. 10-12 months, shepherd / pit mix. 55 lbs.

He loves to eat! It’s literally impossible not to smile with your heart when you witness his jubilation at mealtime. He loves his Kong so much he cries with delight.

His treat motivation coupled with his high intelligence make him a whiz at training. He knows sit, stay, paw, down, and is working on find it. With an experienced trainer, Randy could easily go pro.

Randy has a good temperament with other dogs. He does have typical adolescent energy though, so four-legged housemates need to be OK with his play. Even as he grows, he’ll always be energetic, curious, fun-loving and inquisitive about the world around him.

Good with kids! Cool with loud, noisy households, doorbells, barking housemates, and the pace of a busy life. He’s a people dog—he wants to be in the action and close to family.
Randy loves sitting on a (designated) chair like he’s people, offering you his paw, and hiding acorns in his mouth when he thinks you’re not looking. He LOVES rotisserie chicken and will do anything for a treat.

He is nutty and kind, loving and all-around the bestest boy!

🐶 Meet Greta 🐶

Hello, I’m Greta!

I am a playful and VERY inquisitive 8 year old German Shepherd . I am just over 64 pounds (for now) as my foster mom is taking good care of me to get me back on track. I am expected to be about a healthy 75lbs.

I was on the euthanasia list in Texas, because I was there “too long” 45 days to be exact , but got a second chance at life thanks to Safe Haven and my foster family!
When I arrived to my foster home, I first met my furry foster sister Maya! She’s the best and I am learning a lot from her.

I still don’t know my name but I am getting better at it! I know basic commands such as sit and stay. I am working with my Hooman foster siblings on “shake”, “stay” “lay down”. The best part is all the treats I get

I am still learning to go down the stairs but I am making progress every day!
I am completely housebroken and crate trained. Most nights I snuggle with my furry foster sister on “my” designated couch space but.. I also find comfort in my crate and will sleep soundly in there if needed.

I love my foster family’s and get along and play respectfully with them. Fetch is my favorite! I also do great on a leash and love to take walks. I enjoy snuggle time with my foster mom and love playing With my foster siblings.

While I have learned to respect my foster family’s resident cats, I would probably do best in a home without them. I would, however, thrive in a home with another playful pup!

I have not met any young kids, so I’m not sure how I would do with them. However I met many of my foster siblings friends and do great!!

If you are ready for a loyal and playful companion, I just may be your perfect match!

🐶 Meet Walker 🐶

Hello my name is Walker! I'm originally from Texas, but I've been thriving in Illinois. I just completed my heartworm treatment and I'm ready to find my forever family.

From what we know I'm around 4-5 years, and I'm a mix of lab and catahoula. I'm currently around 40 to 45 pounds.

I'm potty trained, crate trained and I do well on walks. I also love other dogs and kids. I sleep in my crate at night and when my foster family is out. All you have to do is throw a treat in my crate and I go right in! I currently live with 3 children ages 4 and 9.

I'm a super loving boy, and just want to be wherever you are. I love laying in the sun, snuggling on the couch or playing with toys. I know how to sit, and I love treats!

One thing about me is I love food. When I hear you getting my food ready, I get excited and sometimes jump. All you have to do is tell me to sit and I'll wait for you to put my bowl down.

My foster family does put me in my crate when they eat, as I also want people food. I'm not aggressive but I'm very curious about what you are eating. Once I'm in my crate I just rest until the meal is over.

If you are looking for a good boy who loves to relax and has a playful side, I'm the one for you!

🤍Kal El is our longest term foster, having been with Safe Haven for almost 1.5 years. You can see in his photos how many seasons he’s lived through in foster care. 💔

Kal El has only had one meet where the family loved him but wanted a dog who did not shed much and he is a husky mix.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Kal El many times and he’s a well behaved, goofy boy. He deserves a home to call his own! 🤍

🐶Meet Kal El!🐶
Male Husky/American Staffordshire Terrier Mix
About 2 years old
About 65lbs

Hi, I’m Kal El but my friends call me Kal. I spent several months in the shelter and was overlooked for all those cute little dogs and puppies. I am looking for a Forever fa that loves me almost as much as I love them.

I’ve been told that I’m a big DERP! I love to run and play and need a home that has a backyard for me to run. I’m a pretty quiet guy and don’t bark all that much, unless you are ignoring me and then I will “talk” to you like most Huskies to let you know I’d like attention. Since I was in the shelter and didn’t get much opportunity to stretch my legs, I’ve been known to have a need for sp*ed and zoomies are my jam! I’m pretty strong on a leash and am learning not to pull…but there’s so much to explore, sometimes I forget. With continued training, I’m going to be a master of the leash in no time.

When I chill out, I’m very cuddly and like affection. I know the sit command and will sit for a treat, most of the time, unless I get distract…SQUIRREL! I take treats very gently too! I like to play “tug” and I know when my mouth gets too close to your fingers and am gentle with my mouth. But don’t be fooled, I play a hard game of tug and won’t let you win just because you’re a human.

I’m a “Superman” for sure and if you’re not a DC fan, you should also know that I’m absolutely “MARVELous”…see what I did there?

🐶Meet Athena!🐶

My name is Athena but my foster mom calls me “Tina”, I am named after the goddess of war because I was a very sick puppy and fought pneumonia. I am a well fed beauty but with a gentle and relaxed disposition. But I also love to cry for attention if you abandon me for more than 20 sec, my foster mom says I am a bit of a drama queen but I a starting to grow out of this!

I also enjoy a good cuddle on your lap or against your legs. And will shower you in kisses if you hold me. I was born 1/5 and am 30lbs and growing. I am an American Pit Bull Terrier. I came with my 5 siblings from Texas at 4 days old and have been in foster home together with a foster family who has 5 dogs from 10-110lbs who have helped teach me the ropes of being a dog.

Athena is more laid back and likes to play with her big dog friends. She enjoys munching on sticks and leaves or even barking at her sister. She also enjoys playing tug of war with plush toys, tennis balls or a quick chase with her sister. She also loves a nap and kisses in your arms. Outside naps are the best! She loves to take walks and does well on leash. Tina also likes to growl when she plays and snore when she sleeps. She is very food motivated and has learned sit and touch with vocal and hand commands and is working on wait and paw. She does respond to her name and will come running to you for hugs or to be picked up ! Athena thrives with dog & human friends and loves to have someone to cuddle with or play with. She is incredibly sweet and affectionate and gives kisses on command.

Athena is learning to potty outside and is down to a few accidents a day with routine, she will use her pads for those accidents. She has been introduced to a crate and she likes to sleep in it at night. She does great with all humans even as young as 2 and has been bottle fed, so human touch is very important to her. One of her other favorite things is a fluffy bed or blanket to comfort her when she needs a mama dog, she might even try to nurse before a nap.

Athena has met cats at her grandma’s house and didn’t seem to mind, she is also respectful of senior dogs and plays respectfully with others. She has met lots of other dogs and has enjoyed everyone!

Her perfect family would continue her positive reinforcement training, love cuddles and puppy kisses, be active and have children and/or another dog or 2 for her to play with.

🐶Meet Chessy!🐶

Hello! My name is Chessy, but my foster mom also calls me Chester Cheetah because I’m a cool dude with a heart of gold. I’m a 4- to 5-year-old, 60-pound Lab/Pit mix, and I’m searching for my forever home – could it be with you?

My journey hasn’t been easy, but I’m proof that love and kindness can make all the difference. I was rescued just two hours before I was set to be euthanized on Christmas Eve, and I’ve been making the most of my second chance ever since. My foster mom tells me every day that I’m an incredibly sweet and special boy, and I believe her!

I may have a few scars from my past, but don’t let that fool you—I’m all about love, cuddles, and companionship. When I first arrived, I was a little shy, but I have never shown any aggression. Once I realize you’re a friend, I’ll melt into your lap (yes, I consider myself a lap dog!) and soak up all the affection you have to give. Even my foster mom’s son, who is a very tall 6’9”, won me over in no time!

I’m a polite, well-mannered guy who:
🐶Walks beautifully on a leash, staying right by your side
🐶Is housebroken and crate-trained (I even put myself to bed sometimes!)
🐶Rarely barks—I'm a quiet and relaxed companion
🐶Plays when it's time to play and chills when it's time to relax

I get along great with other dogs, including my two miniature dachshund foster sisters, and I’ve done well with small children, cats, and even chickens in my past foster home! I’d love to have a doggy playmate my size, but I’d also be happy as your one-and-only as long as I get plenty of love and attention.

Since I’m a sensitive soul, I thrive in a calm home where positive reinforcement is used. Yelling scares me, but a gentle voice and patience help me feel safe and loved.

I’m ready to find a forever family that will cherish me as much as I’ll cherish them. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who will be your biggest fan, I might just be the perfect match for you. Fill out an application and come meet me—I can’t wait to start our adventure together!

🐶 Love, Chessy 🐶

🚨Emergency Foster Needed for Carmel Apple🚨

Caramel's current foster has had a job change and is no longer able to care for her. Please read her story to see if you can help.

This sweet, 97-pound Mastiff mix recently had ACL surgery and is recovering. Despite her injury, she remains calm, loving, and gentle.

Age: 9 years young
Size: 97 lbs
Temperament: Sweet with all humans, good with large dogs (likes to chase smaller dogs and cats)
Leash skills: Walks slow and easy
Recovery: Healing from ACL surgery and needs a comfy place to rest

She is super calm, happy to sunbathe, and a slow walker who just wants a quiet home to recover. She was the biggest dog on her transport but waited patiently and quietly for her turn.

If you love big, gentle dogs and can offer her a foster or foster to adopt home, please email us ASAP at [email protected] and include a phone number. You can also message us here!

We provide everything you need—food, crate, vet care, leashes, and more.

🐶Hello world! I’m Indigo!🐶

I am a beautiful 2-year-old girl from Texas, and my foster family says I have the most soulful eyes—it's why they gave me my name! I’m having so much fun in my foster home. I love playing with the resident dogs and would be thrilled to have a canine friend of my own in my forever home. I’m a smart and inquisitive girl who enjoys learning new things, playing with my toys and stuffies, and chewing on bones. My absolute favorite activity is running and fetching balls in the yard!

I’m fully potty trained and have never chewed on anything I shouldn’t. I’m also very respectful of the other dogs’ space—my foster mom says I’m the perfect houseguest. When I’m not playing, I’m happy to relax, cuddle, or sit right by your side, always ready for the next adventure.

I’m looking for a loving family who can help continue building my confidence, teach me new things, and show me that life doesn’t need to be scary. I’m ready to live my best life and share my love with a special family. If you’re looking for a new best friend, I’d love to meet you!

🐶Meet Breezy!🐶

Hi, I’m Breezy, a female, 2-year-old Husky mix with a whirlwind of energy and a heart full of love! Weighing in at 55-60 lbs, I’m the perfect blend of strength and snuggles. My journey started in Texas, where I was abandoned, but I made my way to Illinois, and now I’m on the lookout for my forever family—could that be you?

I’m a high-energy gal who loves to play and explore. I get along well with other dogs, especially with proper introductions, and I’ve even found my best buddy, Kal El, in my foster home! When I’m not zooming around, I’m a total love bug, ready to share affection and soak up all the belly rubs you can give.

I’m both crate trained and house trained—zero accidents here! My foster family says I’ve got the silliest, most adorable ears that give me a permanently curious and playful look. And yes, I do the classic "Husky talk," adding a bit of sass and personality to every conversation.

While I’m already a pretty awesome pup, I’d thrive with a family who can continue my training. I’m eager to learn and would love someone who can guide me with patience and consistency. Whether we’re going on adventures or cozying up at home, I promise to bring joy, laughter, and love to your life.

If you’re looking for a sweet, spirited, and slightly goofy companion, I’d love to meet you!

Let’s make every day a breezy, tail-wagging adventure!

🐶 Meet Willis! 🐶

My name is Willis, and I was born on 10/20/2024 in Texas with my eight siblings! I am one of the 3 boys in the litter. What breed am I? Me and my siblings are a colorful bunch, so it’s anyone’s guess! Whatever I am, I’m 100% adorable!

My foster mom says I’m the smartest boy ever and I catch on to what she wants from me very quickly. She thinks I should be pretty easy to train once I’m in my new home, because I am super attentive. I am a rough-and-tumble puppy but can settle down easily when I need to. I love to chase toys and fetch but like to play tug instead of giving it up so easily. I can be demanding when I’m ready for my food but haven’t really been vocal about anything else. I would eat all the food in the world if my foster humans would let me! I do very well in my kennel but love human interaction most of all. I sleep through the entire night, whether in my crate or right by my foster’s side. Actually, I prefer to be at my foster’s side 100% of the time! I rarely venture off out of view, because I always want to see what’s going on. I will do really well if I can find a family that’s looking for a great companion dog.

I’ve been busy at my foster home with my brothers and sisters and my two foster siblings. I do great with the large, adult dogs that live here and have liked every other big dog I’ve met on walks so far. I haven’t met any cats yet, but I think I would like them too, even if they don’t appreciate my puppy curiosity. There is a 12-year-old boy that lives here; I get so excited to play with him and love every kid I have met so far! I haven’t spent much time with any really young children yet, but if you watch my excitement around them, I should be just fine.

I love going on walks and am so great on a leash! I would spend all day outside if I was allowed to. I haven’t been potty trained yet, but I do always use my p*e pads. I know what “potty” means and will go every time I’m let outside. I’m still learning how to let people know that I need to go out, though. I haven’t been left home completely alone yet, as I have my brothers and sisters with me. That may take me a little time to get used to, but I don’t think crate training will be an issue for me. I take corrections very well and should learn quickly with my new family.

I’m having so much fun and learning so much every day, but I can’t wait to meet my new family!

🐶Meet Chestnut!🐶

Hi there! My name is Chestnut, and I’m an almost 6 month old male Terrier mix puppy who’s ready to be the missing puzzle piece in your family. I’m cheerful, carefree, and full of energy, always looking for my next adventure!

At my foster home, I live with two teenagers and have also done great with younger children (ages 4–8) who visited for a few days. I love playing with other dogs as well!

I already know a few commands, like “sit,” “no,” “potty,” and “treat.” I get excited easily and may jump on you, but it’s just my playful nature—I calm down quickly with a little attention.

I’m doing well with potty training. Since I’m still a puppy, I have occasional accidents if I’m not taken out frequently, but I’m learning fast! I’m also crate-trained—I happily go into my crate at bedtime and even enjoy naps there as long as I have a soft blanket to snuggle up with.

When I’m not chasing down balls or exploring, I love curling up on the couch next to my foster family for some cuddles. My curiosity keeps me alert—I’ll pop up from a nap if I think something exciting is happening without me!

My foster family adores me, but they know I’m ready to find my forever family—one that can match my energy and help me grow into the best pup I can be. Could that be you?

🐶 Meet Anthony! 🐶

Hello, I’m Tony (Anthony)!

I am a playful and smart 1.5 year old, male, Mountain Cur mix with a handsome brindle coat. I am just over 40 pounds, making me the perfect medium sized pup.

I had a rough start down in Texas, but got a second chance at life thanks to Safe Haven and my foster family!

When I arrived to my foster home, I knew no basic commands. I now know “sit”, “shake”, “down”, “leave it”, and “speak”!

I am completely housebroken and crate trained. Most nights I snuggle with my foster family in bed, but I also find comfort in my crate and will sleep soundly in there throughout the night.

I love my foster family’s resident dogs and get along and play respectfully with them. Tug of war is my favorite! I also do pretty well on a leash and love to take walks. I enjoy lick mats, snuffle mats, and enrichment puzzles to keep my mind busy too.

While I have learned to respect my foster family’s resident cats, I would probably do best in a home without them. I would, however, thrive in a home with another playful pup!

I have not met any kids, so I’m not sure how I would do with them. I am still getting socialized and am a little weary with strangers, but if you give me treats I warm up pretty quickly!

If you are ready for a loyal and playful companion, I just may be your perfect match!
