Here is a compilation of 4 out of the 5 barn hunt runs Ries and Stoli did on Sunday. No videos of Ries Friday or Saturday, though… Not bad for Stoli’s debut and Ries got her first qualifying score in Novice B!

Ries didn’t have the best of weekends at the barn hunt competition this weekend-4 NQs and 1 Q (2nd Place). Stoli made his debut in the sport today, though, and knocked it out of the park! 3 Qs, 1 new title (RATI), and a 1st and 2nd! What’s important is that they came out and had fun looking for the rats!

If anyone is interested in trying out barn hunt there is an upcoming competition here in Eldora the weekend after Thanksgiving! Any dog over the age of 6 months, regardless of breed, is eligible to compete! If you’re interested in trying out this sport with your dog register them online at BarnHunt.com then enter them in the event of your choice. If you’re just getting started and your dog has never seen/smelled a rat before I would recommend entering in the Instinct classes (you can enter these until your dog achieves their RATN title.) If your dog has seen/smelled a rat before or you’re feeling ambitious you can also enter them in Novice A classes!

Early entries for the Eldora event closes the 18th and numbers are low. Ries and I will be competing all 3 days in Novice as well!

Did you know AKC now recognizes Barn Hunt Association awarded titles? AKC allows you to transfer Novice and higher titles from BHA to AKC so now your dog’s achievements can be added to their AKC registration papers!

Barn Hunt is based on the traditional roles of many breeds in ridding farms, barns, crop storage areas, and homes of destructive vermin. Some breeds were specifically created to fill this role, and for many of those breeds, Barn Hunt provides their first true opportunity for responsible breeders to....

Could not have asked for a better way to spend the weekend but with the dogs! Stoli decided he forgot how to run in Fast CAT but had it down by the end of the weekend again. Ries, however, far exceeded my expectations. This was only our 2nd ever barn hunt event after approximately a total of three lessons. We competed in 2 instinct classes and 4 novice classes and successfully found the rat in all but 1 novice class. To take it a step further she got 2 second places and 1 third place in our novice classes. The cherry on top is that she earned both her RATI and RATN titles this weekend! We have some homework to do before our next event in November but I know she can rock it out of the park again! More photos to come soon! 😉

Happy Birthday to my favorite Sto-man!

Stoli says hold my beer mom, I’m going to blow them away with my speed! NOT! It was Stoli’s first ever attempt at Fast CAT this weekend and needless to say his first run was a memorable one! In fact, it was so memorable that he won his height division’s Turtle Award! That means of all the dogs running that are over 18” tall, he had the slowest time of the day! 😂😂😂 He picked up how the game works after that first run but ooo boy that first was interesting!

Congenital deafness has been reported for approximately 80 breeds, with the list growing at a regular rate; it can potentially appear in any breed but especially those with white pigmentation. Congenital deafness in dogs can be acquired or inherited and the Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response (BAER) test is the only accepted method of diagnosis.

Summer may be winding down but the dogs are just as active as ever! Since we weren’t able to make it to the Amanas last weekend to get Stoli his BCAT I guess that just means that now he gets to join Ries and I at the Fort Dodge event in October? Logical right? Stoli will be running Saturday and Sunday in Fast CAT and Ries will be doing some barn hunt that weekend as well!

***UPDATE-She has been found safe!***

Izzy was stolen from her owner’s yard on September 2nd. The owner stepped inside for a few seconds and when she went back outside she was simply gone. Izzy is a white and black, HUA, 21 lb. female Dalmatian from my May 5, 2024 litter. Being HUA means she does have special dietary needs. She is microchipped. Her family misses her dearly so please spread the word! If you see her or anyone you know in the area finds or suddenly has a 4 month old female Dal matching her description please have the dog scanned for a microchip. Her contact information on the microchip is up to date.

Well true to fashion around here National Dog Day was spent at the vet for 2 out of the 5 dogs. Jasmine went in for her retirement spay and the vet said she is recovering well and will be home tomorrow. Stoli decided he wasn’t feeling like running at next weekends Fast CAT so he pulled a muscle Saturday just to get out of it. Of course he’s a pansy so he has also determined a pulled muscle means he needs to be carried everywhere. I’ll take a pulled muscle with an impromptu addition to today’s vet drop off over the CCL tear I was afraid it was, though! 2-3 weeks of rest, pain meds, and plenty of mama cuddles and he’ll be back to normal which is just what I want to hear! As you can see this mama’s boy is already getting spoiled with extra cushioning on the elevated bed as well as bedside service for dinner!

Now that we are finally old enough to be fully vaccinated we did our first public outing! Julep went on her first structured walk around the lake, had a mini training session (video) amidst distractions, and got exposed to many new things such as bikes, cars driving right next to her, and dogs even bigger than my Cane Corso (Nyx)! She did so well for her first time!

All the ladies are in a wrestling mood this evening, apparently! Julep is enjoying having her mama back in the house and I can’t believe how big she is in comparison to Jasmine!

Video of our first ever barn hunt trial! Didn’t find the rat but she was actively sniffing and looking for it and didn’t eliminate in the ring like a lot of dogs were doing that day! I’ll consider that a win!

Julep isn’t the only one learning new things! Ries had her first barn hunt lesson so now we get to practice some of the test items at home! Now to do a Day of Show entry with her this week or not? 🤔🤔🤔

Rosais’ Run For The Roses

Don’t mind my jammies but Julep is already a little over half way to her VHMP title at just 9 weeks old! She has a strong start in two other test items and we will start working on her leash training and recall here soon. Considering we can’t even actually test let alone apply for the title for another 3 weeks I’d say she’s doing well so far!

Ries and Stoli had their first ever dock diving lesson last night! While they may never be dock dogs at least they got to try something new! We’ll do a couple more lessons before deciding if this is something they enjoy or not but I’m just so proud of them for trying something new and being brave enough to at least get their toes wet.

Week 7 Puppies start going to their new homes next week! Temperament testing was officially completed this evening so I am starting to reach out to all of my contract-holders to determine picks. At this time, everyone is spoken for unless a family backs out unexpectedly.

Rosais’ Rieson To Be

Well it may have been a bit wet and muddy today at Fast CAT but Ries had fun none the less! She ran a 9.423 (21.71 mph) for her first run and her second run (video) was 8.503 (24.06 mph.) Despite the poor weather conditions and subsequent wet track she was only 0.033 seconds from beating her fastest time and even her first run was not her slowest considering this is only her second day of events ever (and each dog can only do 2 runs a day.)

Ries is starting some treadmill training to help her get and stay in-shape! Fit dogs are less prone to injury and with us starting to get more involved in dog sports it is even more important! Along with doing the cardio we also are doing a bunch of daily exercises to work on her core, balance, and limb awareness. Not only does all this work help her out physically but also mentally. By making her do all these new things I am helping to enrich her life by keeping her mind busy while also working on our relationship! Now to just get all of the rest of her exercise equipment so that we can do even more fun new things! PS if anyone is wanting to get any Blue-9 products (such as their KLIMB or Propel Platforms) let me know as I do know one of their Resellers.
