I hope everyone is staying safe and warm in this weather! 🥶
Auntie Em’s safety tips for you and your pets: -exposed skin and paw pads can be the first to get frostbite in less than 10 minutes.
-If your dog is lifting his/her paws, immediately get them indoors, and wipe them with a dry towel.
-Be sure to provide pets with adequate amounts of water, and not overfeed.
-if you have a coat or boots for your dog, be sure to use them when possible.
-when possible, allow your pet to go out for a few extra potty breaks to ensure less time outdoors & and less accidents indoors.
If you see an animal outside here are a few numbers you can call:
For animals lost or loose:
-(309) 216-6771 Quad cities animal rescue team
-(563) 388-6655 Humane Society of Scott County (currently closed for the weekend, but may have information that can help)
For neighbor pets/animals outdoors without sufficient access to water and shelter: Call local PD and report the animal sighting with address (report as non emergency and request an officer to respond).
If you come across an animal that is hypothermic (or frozen) be sure the animal is not frozen to the ground.
-Pour lukewarm water, not hot, around the animals feet.
-wrap them in a dry towel
-Bring them to the nearest vet clinic for immediate medical assistance.
IF THEY ARE WARMED UP TOO QUICKLY, THIS CAN RESULT IN SERIOUS COMPLICATIONS OR DEATH. Do not feed the animals or give them water until they have received medical care.
Be safe out there, everyone!
