Today’s Vet Technician Appreciation Week spotlight is our longest-serving technician – Tonya. We are proud to say that she has worked here for 27 years – a number that is somewhat unusual in this field! Tonya is a strong advocate for all pets, encouraging owners to do the very best that they can possibly do to provide care. She has a strong interest in training of both puppies and adult dogs, as well as client education. She is always ready to answer client questions on the phone, and is very good at explaining all sorts of medical issues and answering concerns thanks to her many years of experience.

Tonya always keeps us on our toes with her zany sense of humor. She’s always up for anything, especially if it involves fun or exercise. She’s a Crossfit addict, a multitasker, a backyard chicken lady, has a houseful of dogs, and loves spending time with her family outside of the hospital. We honestly don’t know where she finds all her energy!

Thank you Tonya for your dedication and many years of service. ❤️

Being a veterinary technician is not just about holding cute puppies and kittens. These highly-trained professionals perform a wide variety of job duties, often on a variety of animal species. They do all of these things every day! They truly are the backbone of our hospital - we wouldn't function without them.

Please help us thank them for all they do ❤️

For our next Vet Tech Appreciation Week spotlight - our newest vet tech Kayla!! Now a seasoned veteran after a year on the job, Kayla has proven herself to be a reliable and hard working team member. The doctors can always count on her to get things done. She has also become the callback queen, making sure our calls/texts to check on patients get done during the day.

Kayla has also become a member of our unofficial golf team, is working to gain more experience in the surgery and dentistry areas, and became the owner of a sweet new Golden puppy this year. Don't let her quiet demeanor fool you - this girl is funny and surprises us with her wisecracks from time to time.

Thank you Kayla for being such an awesome tech team member! We appreciate you.

This week is Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week, and in honor of this week we will be highlighting each of our technician team.

First up is Andrés - many of you know him well! Andrés is actually a veterinarian, originally trained in his home country of Bolivia, but here in Iowa he works mainly as our surgery and dentistry technician. He likes to work behind the scenes mainly, but he is very gentle with all our patients and enjoys talking with clients. We consider his fluency in Spanish a big asset to our hospital, and it has come in handy several times! Andrés has a great sense of humor, always pulling jokes around here and making us laugh. He also entertains us with stories of weird South American diseases and some very funny life experiences in his past. He is now enjoying life as a grandpa, and tries to take a little time off for vacation - especially in his beloved Colorado mountains.

Thank you Andrés for all your hard work - we appreciate you every day and you are NOT allowed to retire!!!

We are very proud to have supported such a successful fundraising effort. Thank you to the Tangled Wood for hosting and to all the people and other businesses who supported animals in the Quad Cities.

We are absolutely thrilled and incredibly thankful to announce that, thanks to all of your amazing support and generosity, Rescue Rocks has successfully raised a whopping $20,890 for Kings Harvest Pet Shelter! This incredible feat would not have been possible without each and every one of you. Your contributions, enthusiasm, and dedication have truly made a difference in the lives of countless furry friends who now have a better chance at finding their forever homes.

Every donation, share, and word of encouragement played a vital role in reaching our goal. The outpouring of support from this community has been nothing short of heartwarming, and it’s a true testament to the power of collective effort.

With heartfelt gratitude,
The Rescue Rocks Team

We missed National Custodian Day yesterday, so we wanted to take this opportunity to recognize our amazing custodian David for his work here at the hospital. You may not see him much, as he works mostly behind the scenes, but David works hard to keep things looking nice around here and we really appreciate all his help. He also keeps us in stitches with his sense of humor and funny T-shirts.

You might notice a little difference with your new puppy’s appointments these days. We are going to help them develop life-long skills in a few different ways. At each visit, our veterinary technicians and assistants will help them practice getting on the scale, stepping up on the table (if we need to), and playing with their paws and ears.

We ask that you bring your puppy in a bit hungry so they are treat motivated and ready to listen. If they have a favorite training treat please feel free to bring that in. Doing all of these things will allow them to become independent and brave when they come in for their yearly vet appointments or when they go grooming. Our goal is to make veterinary visits easier in the future for you, your dog, and our staff.

Check out the difference between Maggie's first and second videos!
