Please take care of yourselves and your animals in this severe heat and humidity! Remember that dogs and cats cannot sweat, so this weather affects them severely. Pavement is incredibly hot and can burn foot pads. Water and shade are essential. We do not want to see your pet stricken by heat stroke or heat exhaustion. 🥵🥵🥵

Phone issue today - we can receive all calls, but seem to be unable to call out to certain cell phones. It seems to be mainly a US Cellular issue. Text messaging seems to be working. If you are waiting for a call from us, this may be why. Please call or text us instead.

Today is World Pet Memorial Day. To celebrate all the furry family members we have lost, we invite you to share a photo here, and tell us their name and maybe a little story.

To start us off, this is Dr Ewoldt's beloved little Josie, who passed in 2017. You may have seen her in the clinic, or riding around in the vet truck on farm calls. She is still missed. ❤️

We have been informed by Central Scott Telephone that there are currently state-wide issues with outgoing calls from land lines. If you try to call us, you may not be able to get through. Similarly, we are having some issues calling out from our clinic phones. Apparently cell phones are not affected. Feel free to utilize our text messaging if you need to.

Thank you to those who served.

Sharing for a client:
Meet Gypsy Rose, an almost 8-year-old spayed female Pitbull mix. She is looking for a new home to call her own. Due to unfortunate circumstances her owner is no longer able to care for her. Gypsy is a sweet girl but would prefer to be the only pet in the house hold. She loves people and would be in heaven if you would just pet her all day long!
If you would be interested in giving her a new forever home, please contact our hospital and we will get you in touch with the owner. She has until June 1st to find a home.

Just a reminder:
We will be closed on Monday May 27 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. 🇺🇲
The awesome staff at the Animal Emergency Center of the Quad Cities will be available all day that day if you need them.

Yesterday, Dr Ann, Dr Jennifer and Colene attended a management workshop in Ankeny to learn some new business management tips. This workshop, organized by the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association, featured a nationally-known expert in veterinary business management and was quite interesting.

Thank goodness we had a great team back home to help Dr Emily work the clinic by herself!

Here's a fabulous freaky find on Friday - our veterinary technician Jessica noticed that something looked funny in Lassie's mouth today while giving a routine Bordetella vaccine orally. She called Dr Ewoldt, who used forceps to remove a nearly 2" long stick that was wedged between Lassie's upper teeth across her palate!

What a great catch, Jessica! Now if only we could keep Lassie from eating sticks!!
