BYE BYE BAAA! Please don't judge. I'm one of those people who believe in keeping an animal until death we do part. Baa's case is a little different. He and his buddy (Baa Baa)--another intact ram--wandered in here at the end of September 2017. Just walked right in like they owned the place. Efforts to find the owner were made, but no one claimed them, so here they stayed.

They would spend all day head butting each other, then curl up and sleep together at night.

They went to sleep one January night, and when I went out to feed them their breakfast, Baa Baa had crossed the Rainbow Bridge. No signs of trauma, no blood from the ears or nose...he just never woke up.

Baa hasn't been really happy since then. I don't blame him, being kept in a round pen with nothing to head butt. It just wasn't fair to him.

So today he went to a new home in Sunsites, where he'll have 3 acres of fenced pasture with other sheep and goats, and other critters to keep him company, and a covered stall to sleep in at night.

We expected a bit of a rodeo to get him into the crate, but he just walked right in! Guess this was meant to be. He'll be much happier now.

The reward. I have this beautiful HUGE bush growing outside my back door. The dilemma was I had to hack through it to get to the water supply line for my swamp cooler. The splice I put in a month or so ago had come apart. Yay me for having extra parts! I'm once again basking in blessed coolness!

The hog nose snake showed up on my front patio for my amusement while I was dealing with water well issues. They will play dead when threatened, and their hiss sounds very similar to the rattle of a rattlesnake. They are harmless, and eat mice and rattlesnakes, so they have free range around here.

I don't use my Instagram, but I like some of the filters on their camera.

I came outside to coil the hose back up onto its rack...and changed my mind.

This bass turd gets to enjoy his life for a little while longer. He went under the house. Crap! At least it looks likes he's been eating well. I hope it's a he and not a pregnant she. Lordy....never a dull moment.

"Houdini Bull" came to visit me twice in the summer of 2018. He would liberate himself from his pasture, and take himself for a walkabout around the neighborhood. He would eventually wander on home, and stand outside his pasture gate to be let back in. Once the neighbors fixed their fence, he wandered no more.

I heard a strange noise outside and went to look. Someone's bull is out for a walkabout...in my driveway. The owners are trying to be located.

Just realized I haven't updated the ranch page in almost a year. My bad!

We're still alive here at the ranch. We had a rather wet and snowy winter, and a beautiful spring.

The donkeys are well. This time of year, I usually only see them up close at sunset, when they come up to the barn for water. Usually, they're wandering around on the back 30 during the day, and this time of year they don't need a whole lot of hay.

Baa (the sheep), on the other hand, is like a cat. You fill up the cat's dish with food, they take two bites, and insist that their dish is empty. Baa is the same way with his hay.He takes two bites and insists that it's all gone, and he's starving to death. He voices his opinions all day...even with a mouth full of food.

Here are a few random photos that I've taken throughout the year so far.

We're still alive here at the ranch! I've been working on other projects, but everything is good.

The donkeys checked in this morning! Bruce and Penelope stayed for a couple of pictures and treats, the other two were not interested. They've been out roaming the south 30 all summer, and have only needed to come up for water.
..and before anyone screams "neglect," they are checked on twice a day while they are out and about.

A couple of random shots while I worked outside this morning before it got windy-nasty. Darn distractions! My pear tree is in full bloom. Hopefully, I'll get one or two pears from it this year.

Tombstone Walkdown. I have three sets available. They are 12-ish inches high and hand cut from solid pine that's almost an inch thick. The finish is two coats of exterior flat black paint. Price is $30 for the set--cash (if you're local) or PayPal. If I have to ship them, then shipping is extra. If you want them in time for Christmas, holler now!

Okay--it's almost the end of October. Can we please turn the heat down about 10 degrees? It's still in the mid-90s here! I've been waiting for Baa and Baa Baa's ear tags to arrive in the mail. HA! I received my "Flock ID number" via e-mail today. To get the actual tags, I need to fill out a form and snail mail it to an out of state address. [ 112 more words ]

Well, it was too dark to get photos, but I got the gate and that small portion of the panel fenced off. It confused the dogs, but only briefly, as the gate has been one of their entry ways into the back part of the property. I'm such a meany! I actually got quite a bit done today, but for all I did, it looks like I didn't do a darned thing! [ 67 more words ]

Kind of a "ho-hum" day. I got one of the w**d piles burned off, and added to the second pile. I also got some w**ds cleared on the back side of the barn. Soooo...measuring where the fence will go will be done tomorrow, and maybe some pre-assembly on the sheep shack. The assembly would be easier if I had a cordless drill, because my extension cord will not reach where I want to work. I may have to make an investment....

And there, Ladies and Gentlemen, is the gate that I've been hacking w**ds to get to! I knew it was in there somewhere! The other photo is today's w**d carnage. I'm thinking some graham crackers, chocolate bars, and marshmallows will add a nice touch when I light the match to this pile! LOL (I made that gate about 10 years ago, BTW....) [ 44 more words ]

You're right...I skipped a couple of days. I had to go over to Sierra Vista Wednesday. I have some kind of weird blood disorder where I make too much blood. So once a month, I have to have a blood test done at the hospital. If my numbers are good, I get to go home. More often than not, I have to leave a pint behind. [ 181 more words ]

I'm still hobbling along, but the swelling in my foot has gone down. Still can't take the pressure of a shoe, though. I'm just thankful that it's not the dead of winter, and I don't live in Siberia. LOL But I did manage to get my T-posts today...20 of them, plus the seven I have on hand, and if worse comes to worse and there's muscle around, there's five more that could be popped out of the ground. Well okay...so not much got done today because I could not get a shoe on my foot with the broken toe. It's still swollen, but it's gone down a little more this evening, so that's good. Maybe tomorrow I can get shoes on. The temporary fence is working great to keep the dogs out. Hay, however, now has to be lobbed over the top of the corral panels. [ 68 more words ]

Saturday It was kind of a non-sheep day. With the temporary fencing being as done as it's going to get, I was up at 4 AM and out the door at 6 AM for my first "adventure" since last November. This was pre-arranged before the sheep walked into my life, and it was a birthday treat from members of a ghost town group that I belong to. [ 181 more words ]

Well, the Good Lord has let me live another year. How did I celebrate my birthday? I finished wrapping the round pen with field fencing to keep the dogs out. This is good for me, right? Considering that all summer, I dealt with a badly sprained back and walking pneumonia...I just don't bounce back like I used to. But I'm getting there.
