It was a nice mild day yesterday. The Littles that chill out faster than the big kids had a lot of fun exploring the yard.
Get ready for what’s coming. Plan a playdate at your friends, take your pup treat shopping at the pet store, bring out the Kong’s, puzzles, snuffle and licky matts. Engaging them mentally is just as important as physically.

JANGO!
4 things to know:
Adopt a kill list dog!
Adopt a senior!
Educate yourself and do for you dog what your gut tells you is right!
Consider treating heartworm with the slow kill method!

Jango was top of the kill list in San Antonio in December 2023. She had been adopted from ACS as a young dog and now was back and the owner did not come for her. I pulled her on the way to the euthanasia room. Agnes who helps me here to take care of your dogs when I have errands to run, fell in love with her right away and adopted her shortly after meeting her. Jango tested heartworm positive and a quiet severe unrelated heart defect was found that requires a pacemaker. At her age and her heart compromised it was decided to try the heartworm slow kill method.
Jango had a few scary episodes of fainting as her heart only beats at about 40 something per minute, but it is not stopping her to live to the fullest. She goes on her daily walks and plays fetch like no other. Agnes has done everything in her power to understand her needs and keep her as healthy as possible. Agnes adopted her knowing any day Jango passes out, she might not come back around and we thought she may have a few good months. A year later Jango is still around loving her best life with
She shared with me last month that Jango is now heartworm negative. The slow kill protocol works. I am fairly new to this. My own dogs never had it, but Rottweiler Hugo had it too and following the slow kill protocol worked for him too.
The vet will probably suggest to do the fast kill method, but it is extremely painful, dangerous, requires months of cage rest and is super expensive.
The slow kill protocol is so easy: 28 days of Doxycycline. Multi-Advantage ( heartworm meds with moxidection) twice a month for the first three month, monthly after. THAT’S IT! Just be reasonable with not over working the heart with crazy runs, but no cage rest required.
We are so excited for her! She is such a good dog.

Have to admit not being able to save young Dream from San Antonio two days ago sits hard on me.
And now I was just tagged on this 10 months old guy.
I want a break from the stress of rescuing, begging for donations, begging people to help foster, but I also feel like I could help him, if I just got over myself of wanting a break.
I know, we can’t safe them all, but then there are those that pinch the heart just a little more.
I already had a name come to mind for him, which usually means game over for me.
Rodeo! Don’t ask me why.
I will see what tomorrow can bring. I would need a transporter from southern TX to get him to San Antonio, then check, if boarding has some space to keep him, then he needs to get on transport to Illinois, then to a foster that needs to reach him some manners.

Dog seems nervous in the kennel by staying away with a tense body and a tucked tail. I sat in the kennel with him for a bit and he came over for affection and gently took treats from the hand with a wagging tail. He was still a bit nervous but adjusted and came over for continued affection the more time spent with him. He is very treat motivated. Initial nervous behavior may be due to environment.

Cloudy survived today, but is back on the kill list tomorrow.
And today Daisy, the third Rottie girl this week, was brought in. She will be in the kill list in 3 days.

Do not support breeders. Look at the long list tomorrow. This is just one city in the USA.

8 months old DREAM is also scheduled to loose her life today.

And today there another sweet Rottie on the kill list in San Antonio.

Maybe AI can one day translate/ read dogs mind and everybody will understand how these dogs suffer because of human behavior.
How scared and confused they are on their last days in the unfamiliar shelter. How unfair all this is, because people let litter after litter happen with no plan for it.

I cannot help these dogs without a foster family.
Maybe shelters in the future can read a surrendered dog’s message to owner

I love helping the Cunucu’s in Aruba, but the Rottweiler will always be my number 1 breed.
