Meet our featured pup of the week: Tux!

Tux isn’t just a pretty and charming face though, he is also really smart! He has been working on basic manners and tricks at his foster home, and has already learned sit, paw, boop, down, and crawl! He is crate trained, sleeps in a crate without a peep, and is working toward potty training (which he is getting the hang of quickly). He is also working on basic manners at his foster home, because he is still a young boy who has a lot of puppy energy and likes to jump up and can play a little rough when he gets excited. Tux has been happy playing with the other dog in his foster home and is enjoying every minute of that. He has not yet been exposed to kids, however at this stage we feel he would be best in a family with older kids. As Tux is still a big (35 lb) puppy, he could accidentally knock over or trip a smaller child when he is excited or jumping. The leash is also fairly new to him, but his skills are coming along nicely. Tux loves all things TOYS. Stuffy, squeaky, chewy, balls—he is a connoisseur of them all! He’s also a big fan of blankets, and will drag the ones he likes the most out of his crate and to other places in the house to lay on. As Tux is a puppy he will benefit from an adopter who will be committed to exercise , enrichment, future training and socialization, so this sweet boy can grow up into a great doggie adult!

🐕 🐾Meet Foles, Trainer and Owner of A Dog's Way, Natural Balance Instincts - https://www.adogswaynbi.com/. She is a dedicated member of the HWMAR family for almost two years! She was introduced to the rescue through a Wine Down Wednesday event in downtown Dundee, where a connection with Lori Schutt sparked the opportunity to bring her expertise as a dog trainer to the team. With 5 years of experience, she is passionate about educating clients on dog psychology, helping them understand their pets better, and making meaningful changes in challenging behaviors. 🐶 🐾

In her role at HWMAR, Foles evaluates dogs coming into the rescue, assists fosters with any behavioral issues, and handles the more challenging cases to ensure each dog has the best chance of finding a loving home. She loves the sense of community at HWMAR, where everyone comes together for the love of animals.🐕 🐾

She is not just transforming dog behaviors—she’s also creating strong bonds within the rescue and with the amazing people who are dedicated to helping these animals thrive. 🐾💙

Brittany Ears and Minga's Oscar-worthy performance: Acting innocent after ripping up the dog bed!🏆🐶

Minga, a beautiful 3-4 year old brindle boxer mix, is ready to start her New Year nestled on the couch with her new forever family. A quiet, patient household with older children (teens) that will give her time and space to decompress in her new home is a must. Once she is comfortable and knows she is safe, Minga will follow you for pets, a game of tug or fetch, and snore quietly while snuggling next to you at the end of the day. She weighs 58 pounds, is crate trained, house broken, spayed and up to date on all her shots. She gets along well with the dogs in her foster home. She has not been cat tested. I’m dreaming of my family wherever they may be, and wondering if they’re out there somewhere dreaming about me…Jenson

Jenson is the perfect combo of sass and cuddles. He is an approximate 12 week old, black mouth cur mix. He truly loves being with his person, be it at home, on walks or car rides, he’s up for all of it. He is crate trained, doing awesome with potty training at such a young age, walks great on a leash and is very social. He does not care about cats and would do fine with another dog or be very happy being the center of attention. You really can’t go wrong with this guy, he will definitely keep a smile on your face! Jenson will make a great addition to your family. As Jensen is a puppy he will benefit from an adopter who will be committed to future training and socialization, so this sweet boy can grow up into a great doggie adult!

The Love is in the Air Litter is now available for adoption!

Love is in the air, and the puppies of this namesake litter are ready for their loving families! These sweet bundles of joy are 7 weeks old (DOB 01/12/25). They are Black Mouth Cur mixes , (Mom is a Black Mouth Cur / Dad is unknown) and will most likely be about 40-50 lbs as grown adult dogs. Puppies in this litter are Casanova (M), Neyeli (F), Valentina (F), Amora (F), and Carina (F) These babies are working on basic puppy skills, such as crate training, potty training and socialization. They love snuggles, toys, and cuddling up in soft blankets. Adopters should be committed to working through all things puppy, and future training to ensure these little ones grow into great adult dogs.

Schnitzel looking fetch-ing as always!

Cute, single, boxer/lab mix, Schnitzel, is looking for his forever home. This handsome guy is six months old; crate trained and house broken; up to date on his shots and neutered. He is a pro at giving kisses, likes other dogs, and loves kids. A fenced yard would be ideal for showing off his zoomies, or playing a game of fetch and tug! At the end of a busy day, Schnitzel appreciates a good bone to chew on and keeping his human’s lap warm while watching TV. Welcome beautiful Liz! Liz is an approximately 1.5 year old, spayed, shepherd/ terrier mix (We do not DNA test) Little is known about this sweet girl's backstory, and we can only imagine what the first year of her life was like. Liz came into our rescue from Alabama and is now learning that having humans around is kinda cool. Liz is a calm, quiet girl who is discovering all the best things that life has to offer. She can be shy and timid upon first meeting, and after a few days in her foster home, has began to follow the humans around and check things out. She plays with her toys, and enjoys sometimes just taking a nice nap in her crate, where she feels safe. Liz would love a patient adopter who will help her feel safe and secure while introducing her slowly, to all of the great things! She would also benefit from continued training for confidence and social skills. Liz is housebroken and crate trained, good on a leash and likes to ride in the car. While Liz would love a fenced in yard, it is not a requirement as long as she gets proper exercise and stimulation daily. Liz has not yet met kids, but we suspect she would do better with older kids, who understand giving her space and letting her blossom. Liz has alot of love to give and deserves a great family to enjoy her life with.

Abraham is so photogenic!

Meet Abraham! This hunk of love is an approximately 1 year old, 48 lb, neutered, American bulldog mix. This boy is just a happy go lucky, affectionate guy. He’s great with other dogs and humans alike (he has NOT been cat tested). Abraham is crate trained, and sleeps there. He is great in the car and walking on a leash. Abraham absolutely loves attention and really enjoys a good game of tug, or fetch, and sometimes believes his human should fetch too. He is very treat motivated and knows basic commands. He would benefit greatly from an experienced adopter who will continue to work on his training and keep him well socialized. Abraham does not require a fenced in yard, but he will need the commitment of proper exercise daily. No condos or apartments for this guy please. Put one ear up if you're a good girl!

Meet Brittany Ears! Her floppy ear, curly tail and sunny personality will always bring a smile to your face. Brittany (Britt for short) is approximately 9 months old (DOB approx 4/13/24) and weighs about 20 pounds. She most likely has a bit of lab, German Shepherd, with a touch of terrier, and a sprinkling of mystery mutt. (We do not DNA test). Britt is crate trained, house broken, microchipped, up to date on her shots and is learning basic commands. She loves playing outside with the other dogs in her foster’s home; chasing balls, playing tug, splashing in her water bowl and drinking from the hose. While she had played well with her foster siblings, she does need to be the only dog in her forever home. Britt has a lot of puppy energy and would probably do best with older kids who understand how to give her space when needed. Obedience training (to help Britt be her best self) and maybe some agility training (to challenge her) would be very beneficial. Brittany Ears can’t wait to find her forever home and share adventures with her forever family.

Asher is very active and loves running around outside. When you first meet Asher, she is very shy and nervous. However, she warms up quickly and is very affectionate. She would do best in a home with a fenced-in yard and a canine companion. Asher is a good dog, but she could benefit from obedience training. Asher would do best with an active family that is going to be patient with her transition.

Scrappy is now available for adoption!

Meet Scrappy! This guy is an approximately 2 year old, 42lb, neutered male terrier mix. Scrappy is a bundle of fun. He is extremely friendly with dogs and humans alike. He just wants to be friends with everyone. (He has not been cat tested). Scrappy is ok in his crate, it’s not his favorite but he will settle, he much rather be out free and hanging out with everyone else. He is good in the car and on a leash. Scrappy is working on his housebreaking and doing a fabulous job. We assume he has never been allowed indoors before. His foster mother says he is extremely intelligent and easy to train. Scrappy would do good alone or with another dog. He is a high energy guy, so he will need an adopter who will be committed to making sure he gets plenty of exercise. Scrappy is heartworm positive and is getting treatment which is paid for by the rescue. Approved adopters will speak to a member of our medical team prior to meet and greet to discuss the treatment and future testing.
