I took this video on Jan 12th 2024…I gave my 2 dogs (Claire, in the video) and Ivy my Boston ( who was inside) a warning time of how many minutes they had to take care of business….. 4 minutes for Claire and 2 minutes for Ivy before their feet froze up cause of the freezing temperatures… I let them out one at a time..So… the smallest of the 2 Ivy had to go off the path and go to her watering hole… way in the corner of the yard in the deep snow…. Every time… I couldn’t shovel my whole yard or even have a snowblower make the raceway as often as it drifted and as cold as it was..This morning many of us had the challenge of free ice skating rinks on our driveways, sidewalks, patios and decks…I decided this was worse than the snow mountains decorating my yard..And… the birds and squirrels who dine on my backyard feeders, showed up early for their breakfast buffet.. Claire did go out with hesitation… but she followed the path of cat litter I paved for her..Ivy???? Um.. She decided to wait and wait.. Finally she figured out the cat walk and off to her corner of deep snow… Lesson always for me… pet safe salt… but I prefer the cat litter for my dogs… When they come inside I make sure to wipe their feet and legs.. I use warm water ( sometimes diluted with a tiny amount of dog shampoo) then rinse it off..If I don’t wash their feet they will start licking them.. I hope everyone was able to stay safe with this ice challenge.. Looking forward to the warm up !
Oscar did so WELL!!!! I decided to use a flea comb to take tiny bits of his fur.. and gently hold his thin skin.. where I could comb off a small mat.. without hurting him.. As you can see my wonderful grateful new friends. Amy and her beautiful daughter Emma.. love him so much…. He was very thankful and kissed me… gave me bunny nose rubs… There is a huge matt where he potty’s.. I took a towel with warm water and let it sit on him several times.. to start lifting that matt away from his skin.. That allowed him some freedom to move and he did… They are going to continue to do that gently and work on lifting that off…He will be coming back and we will continue to work with him until he is back to being a handsome boy… By the way… They are adopting him..He has such a beautiful soul and spirit.. Thanking God.. for it was his will today… to watch over us.
