We apologize for our late post, we've had quite a busy day... Here is today's FEATURED FRIDAY!

Ricky Bobby is a senior boy came to us as an owner surrender due to biting his owner out of pain. Ricky Bobby has arthritis and will need to continuously be on an NSAID. Regardless of his pain, bite history, and age, Ricky Bobby is an active loving boy who is looking for an adult only home who is going to understand and respect his needs.

Gumdrop is an adult cat who came to us while nursing her litter of kittens. Though she can have her moments, Gumdrop is a sweet girl who loves all of the attention she can get. She's looking for someone who will feed her and give her some good, yummy treats as well as someone to play, love, and snuggle with.

Due to being closed and caring for our animals with 2 employees today, the rest of our employees are unable to see our animals and see how the dogs react to the snow…… 😕

Good snowy, Wednesday morning everyone!☃️

Unfortunately, due to the amount of snow we received, and roads being icy/snowy, we will be CLOSED today🧊 We want to keep our staff members safe and healthy so we can continue to provide the best care to our animals. 🐾

We are caring for our animals with a skeleton crew of TWO employees today ☠️ These 2 live around the corner for our shelter and we’re so thankful they are able to make it in safely to make sure our animals are cared for!❤️

We will continue to keep an eye on the conditions and provide an update for tomorrow! Everyone please stay home, stay warm, and enjoy the snow! 🫶❄️🤍

Beginning Friday, February 28th ABTK9 will host our first monthly meeting for our K.I.D.S Program: Kids Interacting with Dogs Safely. 🦮

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our K.I.D.S program! 🐾 This unique initiative is designed to teach children about dog behavior, body language, and how to safely interact with our furry friends.

✨ No need to own a dog to participate! ✨

Our program features monthly meetings where kids will:

🐶 Learn about the health and science of dogs
🎉 Participate in fun dog games and crafts
👩‍⚕️ Meet canine professionals, including local veterinarians and working dog handlers
🍕 Snacks and drinks while learning

Join us in fostering a safe and positive environment for kids to connect with dogs and learn valuable skills!

Plus, mark your calendars! 🗓️ We’re also planning a fantastic Fall 2025 dog show that you won’t want to miss!

Are you looking for a companion? Rolly is a vibrant young dog with a playful, bright mind, but he's been waiting for his forever home for far too long. Rolly has been at our shelter for just over FOUR MONTHS! Per Google, the average shelter stay of an adult dog is about 27 days; Rolly has been here for 156 days. This sweet boy is smart and eager to learn, but he can be a bit of a mischievous pup. Rolly’s ideal home would be with an active, younger couple (or individual) with no small children. He needs someone who is patient and willing to continue his training; someone who will give him many opportunities for exercise and mental stimulation. Rolly can be mouthy when wanting to play, but has never shown us any signs of aggression. Rolly is a bit of a mischievous boy when left unattended.. He does have a tendency to tear up any type of soft toy, blanket, etc. Nothing that some training can’t fix! Rolly has started his training and enrichment journey with ABTK9, which is highly recommended to be continued. ABTK9 has been so extremely generous to us. They have offered to keep him over the weekend and until Tuesday to help him decompress and get out of the shelter environment! Since he has been here for so long, he has mentally started to shut down. Being in a shelter is very hard on a dog mentally and physically.

Who can resist this sweet face? Rolly would love for you to come and meet him! He will be back with us on Tuesday. There are more pictures and videos to come!

Hello All! We know that many are anxious to adopt a cat or kitten, but unfortunately we recently experienced a round of an upper respiratory infection within our shelter, but it's mostly cleared up. We're still carefully monitoring our feline friends and taking extra precautions.
To ensure the health and safety of all our animals, we're still temporarily pausing cat adoptions at our facility until January 31st.

In the meantime, please consider visiting Petsense Elizabeth City to meet these wonderful cats and maybe even find your new furry best friend! Everyone Meet Pippen, Zoo, Tater, and Jasmine! They are available immediately!🐱🤎

Today's Featured Friday is Spruce and Zoo! Both of these boys are neutered, vaccinated, and ready to go!

Zoo is a young adult who likes to play but also like to lay around. He adjusts his energy to match yours. He would be the perfect cat for someone looking for a companion. Zoo was adopted from us as a kitten then was returned due to not getting along with the other cats in the home.

Spruce is one of our beautiful hound dog boys! He is one of the hoarder dogs from the Camden hoarding case. He came to us October 1st with 72 of his other friends/relatives. He is not quite used to being a dog, so he will need some patience, work, and guidance. Once he gets used to you, he is all about love! Hound dogs are pretty smart, so he should catch on quick!
