We took a short break from FB to take extra special care of this puppy. This pup wasn't gaining as much weight as their siblings. We have been in contact with our vet and started supplementing this pup on the side (initially with a bottle every 2 hours around the clock 🕑).

This weekend, we took this puppy into our vet to be assessed in person and started tube feeding them in order to provide continued nutrition 💪. The vet tech during this visit did a great job teaching me how to administer formula via a small tube!

This is, unfortunately, a common challenge a lot of breeders encounter with puppies under 2 weeks of age.

Previously as a nurse 🩺 i have only inserted NG tubes in people so this was new for me, but the concept (tube feeding) is quite familiar to me.

Tube feeding will give this puppy nutrition faster and allow their body to absorb the nutrients with more ease vs taking the bottle.

For now, this puppy is stable and gaining weight. None of us have slept a full night because we have to prepare the formula to administer it every 3 hours around the clock 🕑

This means we cannot sleep 😴 for longer than 2.5 hours at a time. We also need two people to do this so either Jace or my mother have been available to help me.

We will take this puppy back to our vet for a checkup later this week. Hopefully I have some good news to share with everyone 🙏 🙏

I have fallen deeply in love with this puppy and we will do everything we can to provide the best care for this pup ❤️

How many do you count❓️Olive is ready to pop any day now! 🥳 We started checking her🌡three times per day on Saturday to watch for the drop that indicates her body is starting to prepare for labor.

In the meantime, the whelping room is ready and my mom is on call 📞 today to help me out if Olive enters stage one of labor. Then, Jace is off from work tomorrow and Thursday. We are more than ready once Olive says it is a go! ✅️

✨️ As you can see, I do not whelp puppies alone. Jace or another family member is always present with me as they get close to whelping.

✨️ The reason for this is because in the event something goes wrong or we need to take them to the vet, I want an extra set of hands available to help. This is especially important as we are very hands-on with our dogs and currently have another litter of puppies 🐾 here that need a lot of care!

There is always a lot of planning behind the scenes around a litter of puppies in order to keep them safe, comfortable, and happy 😊

Sharing puppy 💗 with all of you on Father's Day! Mango delivered her puppies yesterday naturally. This was her smallest litter, which meant they had more room to grow inside her uterus. Their birth weight ⚖️ ranges in size between 0.91 and 1.25 lbs. Those are some big puppies!

They are all doing wonderful and we have a busy morning and afternoon ahead of us.

Here is our to do list for today: 📝

🐾 1.) Check Mangos temperature🌡and assess her mammary glands/teats - we do this 2 times per day for the first 2 weeks then start to decrease the frequency after that.

🐾 2.) Add new supplements to Mango's kibble and offer her frequent water💧and potty breaks throughout the day

🐾 3 ) Weigh ⚖️ all the puppies 1-2 times per day - we do this daily for the first 2 weeks then start to decrease the frequency after that.

🐾 4.) Stimulate the puppies to p*e and poo 💩 1-2 times per day to assess their hydration status and bowel function - we do this daily for the first 2 weeks.

🐾 5.) Assess the puppies umbilical cord site daily until it falls off and completely heals

🐾 6.) Clean the whelping area and wash their bedding daily 🧽

With a smaller size litter, we don't have to rotate the puppies as much because their mom has enough ni***es 😆 for them to claim for themselves!!

We don't start ESI and ENS until they are 3 days old. Right now they are under 24 hours old! 🕑

🩻 A p*ek into Mango's belly! How many cute skeleton crew members do you count? Since Sunday, we started checking her temperature🌡2-3 times per day.

Because progesterone influences a dogs body temperature, a drop typically below 99 happens when their body is starting to prepare for labor.

I will start checking Olives temperature🌡2-3 times per day this weekend. Her x-ray is scheduled for next week.

Look! Golden's On The Rocks! Getting our last dose of nature 🌳 before puppies arrive. Following the birth of puppies, we don't leave the house very often in order to monitor them VERY closely and provide them all with individual care, handling, and curriculum activities. We raise them for 8 weeks 📅 before they leave for their forever homes!

All this means is that we have to plan everything around the puppies.

For example, Jace and I went on vacation to South Africa 🇿🇦 in the spring instead of over the summer because there was a possibility we would have puppies to take care of.

We also drove into the mountains ⛰️ with the dogs for outdoor adventures several times between March and June, knowing we would not be able to do this for a long time.

And you know what? These changes are worth it!!!!!!! Any chance we get to spend more time with our dogs and their puppies is extremely satisfying and fulfilling on so many levels 💞

Sierra has a sweet sugar face! ❤️ This term is used to highlight the beauty of an older dog. Similar to humans, as dogs age, the color of their hair changes. Dogs tend to grow white hairs around their muzzle and eyes (see 📸).

This is a recent photo of Sierra and she is over 6 years old. We love 💖 her sugar face!

It is more noticeable on dark-colored dogs, where the contrast makes the white hairs stand out more.

PUPDATE! "We feel that she's been doing well with adjusting and she is rocking both her crate and potty training."

"We've had a few accidents here and there, but it's when she's more tired/sleepy. She actually loves her crate and we're happy that she recognizes that it's "her space."

"She definitely loves being with both us and her toys. Her favorite thing to do right now is to sit in our laps and chew on whatever toy she wants at that time (hard vs soft)."

"She's so smart and a sweetheart. Thankfully she has not had any diarrhea, but we stayed with the Farmina food yall recommended and we give her one of the probiotics every morning."

"Yall truly were so amazing from when we submitted our questionnaire to puppy pick up. We are eternally thankful to be part of the Golden's on the Rocks family."

This puppy's name is now Astrid. She was ❤️ red girl/dancer from Olive & Jaspers winter litter.
