Here’s a little extra Joy for your holiday season 🎄

Joy is still looking for her forever foster home. She is a beautiful 19-year-old Rocky Mountain Gaited Horse. She is insulin resistant and will need to be on a dry lot, with a low-sugar diet and daily meds. She will also require consistent farrier care to maintain her hoof health. She needs an intermediate rider who only wants to do lighter trail riding. We would prefer someone who has experience dealing with insulin resistance and has a buddy with the same requirements. We will provide medication and all vet care. Located at Terolyn Horse Rescue in Elizabeth, CO. Please message us or call Teri (303)243-1147 if you’d like more information on this gorgeous, sweet girl.

We had another special visit last week from our friend, Jenni Crites! Before she moved away, Jenni was a big part of our daily routine. She took care of all the horses as if they were her own.

Jenni was here on the day when Aubrey arrived with a filly by her side, scared and unsure of everything. Jenni also helped halter train Bryn when she was just a baby.

It was bittersweet for her to see that they’re back with us, but she couldn’t believe how far they’ve come and how much they’ve grown. It was so great to see her again!

Ash has found her perfect forever foster home with Mark and Cammie Hansen! They reached out to us looking for a friend for their mare, Mocha, who recently lost her best buddy. Ash has been missing her best friend, Koda, and hasn’t really clicked with any of our other horses, so we thought it might be a great opportunity for both of them to build a new friendship.

When Mark and Cammie came out to meet our available horses, they really liked Ash and are excited to spend more time getting to know her. Thank you, to Mark and Cammie, for opening their barn and their hearts to our sweet girl!

A special thanks to Dr. Dunbar for helping us make this match happen!

Jace has found a wonderful foster home with our friend and previous adopter, Heather. She contacted us looking for a friend for her mare, Saylor, who also has insulin issues. She came out to meet him and, of course, she immediately fell in love with our adorable, mischievous Mini. So, we loaded Jace up and took him to meet her other critters.

He made himself at home right away. It was so much fun watching him explore and get to know Saylor and the other animals. Jace’s favorite thing is to tempt others to run around with him, and it was no different with Heather’s donkey, mule, and cow. 🤣 He has already made fast friends with Saylor. Thank you to Heather for her desire to foster him for us. Is it too early to start hoping for a “foster fail”? 🤞

We are so happy to finally welcome Ariel and Hazel home with us at our rescue! Ariel’s leg is doing much better. She is settling in and seems pretty relaxed.

Hazel is still very stressed with the move so we are trying to give her some time and space while also keeping a close eye on her and letting her know she can trust us. Several times a day, we offer her some senior grain for a treat. She loves that!

We have sent in DNA samples for both of them and are hoping to hear back soon so we can piece together more of their stories.

More than anything, we’re just happy they are home safe with us. We’ll give them all the love and TLC they could ask for so they will never have to feel unloved or unwanted again!

We always love when Shawna Williams comes to town! She’s not just a close friend, she was also a huge part of our daily rescue life before she moved away a few years ago. When she’s here, she doesn’t miss a beat. Even though she’s here for fun, she always jumps in and helps with whatever needs to get done. This week, it was vaccine and farrier days. Thank you, Shawna—we already miss you!

***Update on Ariel***
Dr. Kiger from CSU veterinary hospital came to examine Ariel yesterday. She sedated her and was able to determine that there are no fractures. She also cleaned out her hoof and found no signs of an abscess. Ariel does have arthritis in her hock and some changes in her stifle area.

The vet believes the lameness is most likely caused by a soft tissue injury. She recommended that we continue with the stall rest and bute. We still plan to bring her and Hazel home to our rescue tomorrow.

Thank you so much to our friends who have donated to Ariel’s vet bill so far! We are incredibly grateful for your support and generosity!💕

**We are no longer able to see the names of everyone who donates through Facebook. We would love to personally thank each of you and provide you with a donation receipt. Please contact us with your information. **

Our adorable mini, Jace, is still looking for his perfect forever home. We will also consider a permanent foster home in the right situation. He’s a shy little guy and he can sometimes be a bit of a stinker to catch. He has insulin resistance so he’ll need low sugar hay, daily medicine and consistent farrier care to keep him healthy. He also needs to live on a dry lot.

His ideal home will be with someone who wants to spoil him rotten, but has experience with insulin resistance in horses with a companion horse with similar needs. A forever home will take priority over any foster applications. Message us if you’d like more information on our handsome little guy, Jace.💕

Ariel needs your support!

As if this sweet mare hasn’t already been through enough with her illness and the loss of her friend and teammate, our black Morgan mare, Ariel, has now injured her back leg. We’re not sure if she slipped on the ice and tweaked something, or if she’s battling a hidden abscess. Even with plenty of stall rest and bute, she hasn’t shown much improvement.

With plans to pick her up from quarantine this Sunday, we want to ensure she’s healthy and safe for trailering. A veterinarian from CSU is coming out today to examine her and provide the care she needs.

Any help towards Ariel’s vet expenses would truly mean the world to us. Thank you for keeping Ariel in your thoughts!

After we plowed the littles a path so they could stretch their legs, they developed a serious case of the zoomies.

Our little filly Jaci is getting cuter by the day. She isn’t sure how she feels about halter 101 but she is picking it up quickly.
Big Thanks to our volunteer Brittany for helping us work with this little cutie. We know it’s such a tough job but someone has to do it.😉

What a difference a day makes! Grateful for the moisture and some sunshine today, even though we aren’t thrilled with the mud left behind. Big thanks to my amazing husband, Jim, my son, Mason, and Ethan Dunlop for all their hard work yesterday clearing roads and digging out the horses. I couldn’t ask for better help.💕

Our little Loki has had a rough week. A few days ago, he came in from pasture with a large lump under his jaw. He was still eating and appeared to be feeling fine. But out of an abundance of caution, we separated him from the other horses , in case it was contagious, and gave him some Banamine to ease any pain he might be feeling.

The isolation was so hard on him because he’s such a social little guy, but we did our best to spend as much time as we could with him. Each day he was the last stop for us and for our volunteers to give him extra attention and TLC. Thankfully, the lump turned out to just be a bump so now he’s back out playing with his friends.

Here are a few photos of some special time with him and our volunteer, Kate. Our rescue horses love her to the moon and back!
