Thank you so much to Makendra Silverman with Happily Hooved for donating a trim for our sweet Joy! Makendra was Joy’s farrier before she was returned to us and did a great job keeping her hooves regularly trimmed and maintained.

When we first saved Joy, her hooves were slippered and she was severely laminitic from years of neglect. Proper hoof care is essential for Joy’s continued health and wellbeing. We’re so thankful to Makendra for her professionalism and for her kindness and generosity. 💕

We are so excited to finally welcome Sven and Elsa home from quarantine! Sven is the sweet, grey swayback gelding that had gone through auction and ended up in the hands of the kill buyer. Believe Ranch and Rescue and their generous supporters saved him so he could join his friends at our rescue. He came from the same cattle ranch as our auction rescues, Olaf and Kristoff. Olaf was so happy to see him when he arrived and they’ve been enjoying their chance to reconnect.

Elsa is the Morgan mare we also rescued at Christmas. We recently sent her DNA to AMHA for testing and we’re pleased to announce that her registered name is Briar Oaks Miss Byzybody( STONECROFT BYZANTINE X CENTURY TATIANA). She was born on April 3, 2003. Thanks to this information, we were able to contact her previous owner who shared that he had purchased her from his uncle and had used her for breeding. He told us he gave her to a trusted friend. He was disappointed to hear she had ended up in the slaughter pipeline, but was relieved to learn she landed in a safe place. He still has her registration papers and said he would be happy to send them to us.

We can’t wait to get to know these two and to spoil them with all the love and TLC they deserve.💕

Jaci is quite the little snow bunny! Even in these frigid temperatures, she loves being outside, playing and romping in the freshly fallen snow.

All of our horses are ready for this arctic blast. The outdoor sheds are filled with straw and everyone gets extra hay and a daily scoop of senior grain, with a dash of salt, to help keep them drinking.

The older horses are bundled up in blankets and tucked in where they will stay warm. Our donkey family, who are extra sensitive to the cold, are nice and cozy in a warm stall next to Jaci and Sara.

We’ve spent several days preparing for this cold which is forecast to last until Tuesday. We’re so grateful for the time and dedication from our incredible team of volunteers that did everything possible to ensure our herd is safe and happy.💕

Today we said goodbye to Kristoff. When we rescued him from the auction just before Christmas and noticed how bad his legs and knees were, we had a feeling that our time with him might be short. During his initial vet exam, Dr. Quay confirmed that the best we could do for him would be to make him comfortable and offer him all the love and care he deserved for the time he had left.

Kristoff left us on a beautiful sunny day, before the bitter cold sets in that would have been too much for him. Everyone here had already grown to love and adore his sweet and gentle soul. Although we’re heartbroken to let him go so soon, we’re grateful we had the chance to give him a compassionate and dignified end to his life.

Thank you, as always, to Dr. Quay and the rest of the team at Iron Horse Equine for always doing what’s best for our horses and for being there with kindness and compassion when the time comes.

A huge THANKS to Bri Graf and The Jasper Project for their generous support with his end-of-life expenses.

Junebug, and the rest of us here at Terolyn Horse Rescue, want to say a huge THANK YOU to Dover Saddlery - Parker, CO for including us in their Giving Tree once again this holiday season. Several of their kind and generous customers gifted our horses with some much-needed supplies. We’re so thankful to our dedicated friends and supporters who purchased and donated these items to give our horses a very Merry Christmas. It means the world to us!

We also want to say an extra special thank you to Laci Isaacs, and her mom Jessica, who not only donated quite a few things from the Giving Tree, but also sent us a generous donation.💕

Our newest rescues, Elsa and Sven, are looking and feeling so much better! They arrived at quarantine with bad colds, but after a couple of doses of Excede, they’re feeling much better, and their sweet personalities are starting to shine through. We’re beyond grateful to our friend Lanya at Safe Landing Rescue for giving them such amazing care. We can’t wait to welcome them home!💕

It’s been a snowy, chilly few days here at the rescue, complete with a blizzard, but Olaf and Kristoff are staying warm with extra hay and mashes. Yesterday, they were happy to see a little break in the weather and to spend some time out of their sheds with a little grooming and TLC from our volunteers!💕

Yesterday was vet day for Olaf, Kristoff, and Loki. Loki underwent his gelding surgery, while Olaf and Kristoff had exams and Olaf had his teeth floated.

Olaf and Kristoff arrived in very poor condition, both were extremely underweight and arthritic. Since they arrived, they have gained weight, and Olaf’s mobility has improved significantly with the help of Equioxx.

Unfortunately, Kristoff’s arthritis has not responded to the meds. After thoroughly examining him, Dr. Quay confirmed our concern that we wouldn’t be able to manage his pain well enough to give him a good quality of life.💔

Over the next few days, we’ll spoil Kristoff with lots of love, good food, and all his favorite treats while keeping him comfortable with medication to manage his pain. This will give Olaf the chance to make new friends so it won’t be as difficult for him when we compassionately allow Kristoff to pass.

A special thank you to our kind and caring vet, Dr. Quay of Iron Horse Equine, and her team. Their empathy and expertise mean so much to us and our horses at all stages of their lives.

Nilla is settling in beautifully and making friends. Thank you to Amy Dean and her husband for opening their home and their hearts to this sweet girl. We’re so happy that she’s receiving all the care and love she deserves!💕
