Talk about climate change has been ever-increasing over the last few years, and there’s evidence of the consequences that it’ll have on the weather and other natural phenomenon. But what about prevalence for disease-carrying parasites that affect pets and people? Dirofilaria immitis (heartworm), Toxoplasmosis, Coccidia, Ancylostoma species (hookworm) fleas, and ticks, just to name a few, are ever present around here. While the risk for heartworm is relatively low here, it still poses a threat. A veterinarian is needed to diagnose any of these parasites. Call your vet to set up an appointment. Treatment and prevention is available

Spring brings beautiful flowers and new life. It also brings out bugs and parasites that may endanger your pet. The best way to protect your pet is going to be a trip or a phone call to your veterinarian. Make sure those vaccinations are current,your flea and tick prevention is updated, and any other concerns are addressed. There is so much misinformation on social media and the internet. Your veterinary team can help navigate this with you for the health and well being of your pet(s).

Dogs can bite for many reasons, including improper care or a lack of socialization. All dogs, even well-trained, gentle dogs, are capable of biting when provoked, especially when eating, sleeping, or caring for puppies. Therefore, it's vitally important to keep both children and dogs safe by preventing dog bites wherever possible.

Have you noticed an increase in skunks? ‘Tis the of year they are feeling like Peppy LaPew and looking for love everywhere. Skunks are vectors of the rabies virus which makes them very dangerous!! Make sure you make an appointment with your veterinarian to have your pets rabies vaccination updated. Do not allow your pets to roam! This will also help prevent this deadly disease. And when in doubt-CALL your VETERINARIAN!! Don’t rely on social media.

Just a friendly reminder that your pet doesn’t need treats or presents for Valentine’s Day! DO NOT feed them anything extra, anything outside their normal diet, and NO CANDY!!! Chocolate is toxic!! And many artificial sugars and colors are toxic. Your pet wants attention. FOOD is not love!! When in doubt- call your veterinarian!!

Christmas is four days!! Eeeekkkk!! We will be closing December 22nd at noon and will be closed until Tuesday, December 26th. We DO NOT have an emergency contact or after hours number. There are emergency veterinary clinics in OKC and Amarillo. Being diligent about prevention may save you an emergency trip and a costly veterinary adventure. Merry Christmas!!
