As family’s are preparing to take their puppies home in the next few weeks. It’s always important to go over a few pointers that will help the new families and puppies adjust the best and fastest they can.
• Kennel- it’s very important to have a kennel that you can put your puppy in when you’re unable to watch them. They are still little puppies so they will chew and get into everything if they are not watched tell they are trained. They also need a place that they feel safe in tell they are fully adjusted to your home and other pets.
•Food- we feed Life’s Abundance puppy food. We recommend that you get some before your puppy arrives home. It’s a big adjustment for them and new food can cause lots of digestive issues if changed quickly. If you wish to change them over to your own food. We recommend doing it slowly by mixing some of the life’s abundance food with your own food at first to not upset their tummies. Also making sure to feed them a good healthy diet will help them live longer and have less issues.
• Supplements- we recommend Nuvet supplements for the first 2 years of life. Puppies are growing so fast that it’s hard for them to get enough nutrients from just dog food alone. So adding good vitamins will help insure they are getting the proper nutrient.
• Training- collies are sensitive and don’t usually need lots of correction. Starting your puppy off to a good start is critical. So getting them into puppy classes is the best. But if not treats and positive encouragement work well. There are lots of good dog training videos online. Always reach out to your breeder for tips as well.
• Drug sensitivity- Most collies are not carriers or affected by MDR1 thanks to good breeding to eliminate this issue. However, we recommend that you still avoid using drugs that are listed as sensitive to collies the best you can. They are still finding more drugs that collies are affected with and level of sensitivity for each dog can very so it’s best to just be on the side of caution. Some vets are not aware of this issue so it’s important to familiarize yourself with the drugs that Collies can be sensitive to.
There is a list of drugs and more information on my website that can help you as well. We do lots of generic testing on our Collies to help insure the best outcome for each of our puppies. Be sure to reach out to me in you have any questions. Thanks

Happy Labor Day. No better way to celebrate than with a Collie. Finn plans to do his favorite thing playing fetch.
Let’s talk about the importance of a healthy start for puppies. Puppies develop so quickly that their bones and joints need lots of nutrient to keep them healthy and growing. We recommend that all our puppies and adults get a good quality dog food and supplement to ensure they are getting the right nutrition. It’s especially important in the first 2 years of life as they are still growing so fast. These are the ones that we use and recommend. As always please let us know if you have questions.
Happy national dog day!

Our home is always full of collies. Each have their own unique personalities. Some are kinda shy and others are crazy playful. We try to do are best at getting the older puppies ready for their forever homes but it usually takes a Collies 3 months to truly adjust to their new home. So here’s a few tips on getting your new puppy home. We recommend keeping them in a kennel if your not there to keep a eye on them because they are still puppies in a big body and will still get into mischief. We recommend getting them into a puppy class. It not only helps your puppy but you as well. It help you both become a team together. If your puppy is shy at first we recommend putting a leash on them and having them follow you around the house and yard tell they because comfortable in their new home. It can take a couple days to weeks for shy collies to adjust to this major change. But having them follow you around keeps them busy and not think about being scared. As always if you have any questions about your Collie or our Collies please let me now.
