Open your home to a shelter pet for Thanksgiving!

Holiday fostering is a great way to give shelter pets a break from their kennel with a short time commitment for those that usually have busy schedules. We're currently looking for foster homes for dogs, adult cats, and rabbits.

When you sign up, you'll answer a few questions that will help our staff match you with a shelter pet. Staff will reach out a few days before your appointment to confirm you've been matched. While matches are not guaranteed, the more open you are the higher chance we'll be able to place a foster with you.

Willow headed home with her new family ❤

Over the weekend we kicked off our Black Friday Free Adoptions with 30 adoptions! (5 dogs and 25 kitties). Can you help us keep the good vibes flowing?

Adoptions are free through Sunday November 30th and there are lots of wonderful animals looking for their forever homes. We've got cats, dogs, rabbits, and other small unique pets. Open your heart and home to a pet in need this season 🥰

When the ear scratches hit juuuuuuust right 🤌

Bitsy is one of our “forgotten kittens” aka part of that group of kittens that became available for adoption when they were tiny and cute but somehow got overlooked until uh oh they’re 6 months old! Every year we have a group of kittens that grow up in the shelter and they always become staff favorites.

Bitsy, though shy at first, is one of those boys. He’s playful and affectionate and more than ready to find his forever home! Maybe that’s YOUR home?

Healthy dog-to-dog play is not always “picture perfect”. Some dogs love to wrestle and as long as they are both having a good time, we always stop to snap a few pics. Most of them come out like this 🤣

Foster Friday update! Our gorgeous house hippo Rayna recently got to enjoy a week in foster care and my goodness did they really bring out her photogenic side 😍

Rayna is a 6ish year old bully who LOVES water and loves people even more. Her foster said she was house trained and so well mannered in the house! After a nice walk and roll in the grass, she was a couch potato. Rayna LOVES meeting new people and has played nicely with other dogs before.

The variety of cats and kittens at our shelter is astronomical! You like tabbies? We got em! You love black cats? We got em! Have your heart set on a floofy cloud of a kitten? We've got those too!

All EGAS adopted cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, dewormed, and current on age-appropriate vaccines. Kittens under 6 months are $75, cats 6 months - 7 years are $40 and senior cats 8 years+ are $25. If you adopt a pair of kittens, you'll take both home for just $100! Need an active way to help improve a life right now? You can help us save Rock N Roll!

This absolutely gorgeous American Pit Bull Terrier is full of life, love, and a zest for adventure! She first arrived at our shelter in August as a sweet and excitable 1 year old. Initially staffed noted that she was wiggly and social but a challenge to take out for walks. Her high energy and super smart brain makes shelter life extra challenging!

The good news? Rock N Roll is super motivated by food, toys, and more and she willingly engaged with training right away! She started to settle with regular field trips, play times, and one on one play dates with dog friends. She even landed some short breaks in foster homes where they reported she rides well in the car, walks nicely on a front clip harness, and starts picking up new skills (like potty and crate training) quick! Her energy level at home has been much more balanced even without a ton of extra enrichment, just a good daily routine.

Unfortunately after a few months, the stress of the shelter is really starting to get to Rock N Roll. She's having a harder time settling down in her kennel and engaging in her training and we know this is due to a very high stress level. We've introduced anti-anxiety medications, recruited short term fosters, and reached out to multiple rescues but so far we have no solid placement for Rock N Roll that will keep her out of the shelter.

She needs a long-term foster, placement with a foster-based rescue, or an adopter. We know that safe places for young, energetic pit bull type dogs are few and far between but we hope you can help us find one. Rock N Roll is a truly lovely dog that has amazing potential, but she needs out. Please share this post and help find Rock N Roll a safe place to land!

If you follow a lot of animal welfare organizations, you probably see a lot of posts asking for help. It is easy to get overwhelmed when you can only do so much!

Today let’s celebrate the wins, the accomplishments we’ve been able to achieve because of YOU. Our community support means the world to us.

Last month the number of pets returned home more than doubled while adoptions and transfers stayed consistent.

In addition, 173 animals spent time in foster care and volunteers gave 1,160 hours of their time both at the shelter and out in the community. That is simply wonderful!

If you adopted a pet, fostered a pet, reclaimed your lost pet, or volunteered last month give yourself a shout out in the comments. Let everyone thank you for your contribution!

Happy National Cat Day!

We’re fully obsessed with the beautiful, charismatic kitties up for adoption at our shelter right now. Here’s pictures of just a few of them! Kitten season may be winding down slowly but we definitely still have plenty of little ones as well as lots of teenagers and some lovely adult cats too. And we think fall is the absolute perfect time to bring home your own personal lap warmer.

Last week, we visited Albiani Middle School for their annual career day. Senior boy Frogbert was an excellent ambassador!

He rode nicely in the car, walked well on leash even in a brand new environment, and enjoyed meeting hundreds of middle schoolers. Any one who works with kids knows that middle schoolers can be a rowdy bunch, and Frogbert took it all in with ease. He even did some tricks trying to win a bite of pizza (he did not get any pizza but he did get good treats).

If you’re looking for a kid friendly adventure dog, he’s middle schooler approved!
