Reactive rehab week 16
If you remember Junior from 16 weeks ago, we posted a video of him melting down horribly from about 75 feet away from a fake dog. Today he is learning tricks and obedience from just 20 feet away AND successfully walking past dogs with no reactions. They say pit bulls are impossible, they say they can’t be trained without resorting to aversive devices, they say many are a lost cause. Well we are proving them wrong!!! No pinch or prong collar, son devices, just positive reinforcement, slow, systematic desensitization, focusing on his emotional needs and a whole lot of patience. Way to go Junior!
Reactive rehab week 6 of 7
Dallas is ready to graduate! We still have some work to do but he’s come quite a ways in the last 6 weeks. Congratulations Dallas!
Reactive rehab, week 7 of 7
Penny graduated reactive rehab today. She’s ready to move on to obedience classes with other dogs
Reactive rehab week 9 of 14
Junior walked past a dog today with no reaction! This is the closest we have ever been able to get to a dog. We are so excited to see him keep progressing a little more each week. Way to go Junior!
Reactive rehab week 4 of 8
Dallas did incredible in reactive rehab today. No reactions at all after four weeks of work. What a turn around. I’m so excited to see where we are in another 4 weeks!
Riggs loves the slash pad!
Reactive Rehab week 6
Here is an update on Juniors progress. 6 weeks into reactive rehab and his meltdowns have become less and less, he’s redirecting back to mom and he’s getting more comfortable with being in the same room as a dog and allowing the dog to get up and walk around a little bit. We’ve got 7 more weeks of work with Junior and we’re so excited to see him learn and grow and feel safe a social with his mom.
Also, it would seem that our RR dog Apollo would like a raise 💰💰💰
Reactive Rehab 8 weeks in
Katrina has been one of our toughest cases. When we first started she was so reactive we couldn’t even have her in the same building with a dog in a different room. We have been working with her for 8 weeks and last night we had a huge breakthrough when she made a conscious choice to walk away from our decoy dog Snowy instead of lashing out. We still have a lot more work to do with her but we are so proud of how far we have come. Way to go Katrina and Tabatha! We are so excited to be on this journey with you!
Reactive Rehab week 7 of 7
Domino graduated reactive rehab today! We’ve been working with her for about 2 months and when we first started she was so anxious and reactive she could barely leave the house. She has built her confidence slowly and today she even got to meet and greet our gentle giant Apollo. Domino has made huge strides and we are so excited to share the journey with her and mom and she continues feeling #safeandsocial #affectivedogbehavior #emotionsaffectbehavior
8 weeks into reactive rehab with Knox
Knox is 8 weeks into reactive rehabilitation and he is doing phenomenal. From the dog who bayed and barked for an hour, foaming at the mouth, at a fake dog to the dog who can sit in a room within 15 feet of a calm, real dog and hang out with mom. We’re almost there Knox!
Reactive Rehab week 7 of 7
Another success in reactive rehab. Leia became afraid of other dogs after she was attacked. The hair would stand up on her neck and she would bark and lunge. After 7 weeks of work she is ready to be integrated into an obedience class to continue learning to be calm around other dogs. Today she was able to hang out with her human in a room full of dogs and feel safe and social. Congratulations Leia and Noel!
Reactive Rehab week 6 of 7
Knox was one of the most challenging cases we have worked with. His reactivity was so bad he had to be moved into a private class without other dogs. He barked continuously for over 30 minutes at our fake dog on his second day of class. Today he is feeling safe and social, able to redirect back to mom and dad, take cues, and walk away comfortably. What an improvement! Congratulations Knox!
Reactive Rehab week 6 out of 7
Here is Leia learning to be safe and social around other dogs in week 6 of our reactive rehab class. Leia has a history of reactivity toward other dogs and would bark and lunge at any dog within her eyesight. She’s doing great! Congratulations Leia
