Update: 5/22/24- Toby’s results are in!!! It looks like Debbie Meyer may have been the closest guess! Jamie will be reaching out to you soon! 🙂
To say these results were a little shocking, was a bit of an understatement… Golden Retriever may speak to why his play style matches Murphy Lee’s so well though and why his behaviors don’t seem very “Herding” or vigilant like many young GSDs. Although his markings definitely speak to GSD more so than Golden. Through the test we may have also found another close relative to Toby besides Mickey (possibly another littermate), so we have reached out through Embark and are waiting to hear back.
Original post:
Many of you know we have a new foster puppy. For those who don’t, meet Toby! Toby has been with us for 63 days today. He was believed feral and needed to be live trapped and has been slowly but surely been learning how to feel safe living life in captivity with our family. We know nothing of Toby’s origins so we decided to see what a DNA test would tell us. We are sending it out today and it will be a couple of weeks before we should get the results back so for fun, let’s guess: what is Toby?!
The first comment with the breed/breeds that match most closely to the test results will win a gift certificate for a free private lesson. This certificate can be given as a gift or donated to a local rescue if not needed by the winner. (The winner does need to be within our normal service area or donate to someone who is). This should be fun!
Some things possibly not evident in pictures
- Toby’s hair is thick, double coated, but definitely softer/less coarse than most German Shepherds.
-Toby I’d believed to be 7-8 months old and is 50lbs.
-He only has front dewclaws and they are tight to the leg.
-Toby is very mellow, not super high energy, and doesn’t show any herding tendencies yet. These could be suppressed by his fear or Lyme disease, or just not present.
-Toby’s believed littermate looks very similar but is closer to 30lbs.
