Do you ever wonder whether all your dog’s needs are being met?
Watch this video to meet Sunny and Cloudy who will explore what you should and shouldn’t do to establish a Fear Free Happy Home for your loyal canine friend!
Guess what…today is National Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day! So often do we wonder what our cat’s pleading or excessive meows mean and today we get to learn a few possibilities of what your cat may be trying to say or ask.
- A single meow could a simple “Hello” or “Hey there.”
- Several meows in your face are usually a clear tell sign of requesting attention and affection.
- Excessive meows in the kitchen or by a designated feeding bowl indicates a polite way to ask for food.
Keep in mind however that you know your cat best so if your feline friend is becoming unusually vocal and adopting behavior that is unlike himself it might be time to consult your veterinarian.

In honor of National Dress Up Your Pet Day, we encourage you to take this perfect opportunity to share your pet’s inner fashionista!
Is your pet’s style laid back boho, 80’s diva, or perhaps the classic casual? Let us know!
Did you know that dogs have 300 million olfactory receptors in their nose and use over 40% more of their brains for scent recognition than humans, which only have six million olfactory receptors!
Not only can our courageous canines use their trusted sniffers to uncover the disposed leftovers, but they tirelessly LOVE to use their nose to find comfort and confidence in themselves and the area around them. Believe it or not when a dog tracks or hunts down a scent their confidence levels are raised considerably.
At Allegheny Veterinary Services we find it important to encourage not only physical health, but mental health since each plays an equal part in your pet’s wellbeing. Scent tracking is a fun activity and a great way to improve your dog’s physical and mental health by boosting the confidence he deserves.

How to know when it’s too cold for your dog? Each dog breed is unique and is built to handle certain weather climates. Fur coat, body fat level, cold tolerance, and general overall health all goes into determining how your faithful companion can handle these snowy days and frosty nights. However, during the winter months no dog should be out for long periods of time, especially during the cooler evenings.

Make the most of staying at home this winter season by developing your pup’s cognitive skills with fun and beneficial brain teaser games!
These types of activities are a fun way to get you canine moving and having a good time. Plus, it’s also entertaining to watch as they attempt to figure out the puzzle. The classic Seek and Find game is the one we’ll be sharing with you today:
1. Hide shoeboxes or small containers throughout a large room.
2. Place a treat in each hidden box or container.
3. Call your pup into the room and encourage him to find the treats.
It may take a few tries but eventually he’ll start to get the idea. This is a fun exercise that encourages dogs to use their keen sense of smell and seeking skills to find the missing treats. You can increase the difficulty by flipping the boxes over or increasing the search radius.
