Who is on my mind today? Angie and Eva are on my mind today. These two young ladies started out as one. Angie came to us two years ago, asking if she could volunteer for Windmill Animal Rescue after seeing a sign we had posted. Angie was 16 years old and working on a National Honor Society project, and she had a deep desire to volunteer and work with animals. What a breath of fresh air this young lady is on a busy day! Angie would come in after school with a bright smile and a gentle disposition, and a very natural talent for hard work and connection with animals. I barely had to train her! After a year of volunteering, in came Eva, her darling little sister. Eva is 13 years old and started when she was 12. Eva wanted to hang out with her big sister and make that great escape of adventure away from home, and let's face it, most older sisters have a "cool factor" about them. What was beautiful to witness was how Angie guided her sister and taught her with such grace the responsibility and the joy of connection with the family of animals. These two take extra special care of these orphaned animals. Eva especially spends personal time comforting them. This was not just an Honor Society project for Angie, nor a great escape for young Eva. I believe their love for animals runs deeper than that. It is in their blood! The girls have a beloved grandpa in Fargo, North Dakota, who is a veterinarian. Angie and Eva's mother, Katie Reichert, volunteered for us a few years back and drove several kitties to be spayed and neutered to the girls' beloved grandpa. We sure are blessed to have an entire family of animal lovers participating in the life of Windmill Animal Rescue. Angie is now 18 years old and graduated from high school this year. She will be leaving at the end of summer for Fargo to study animal science and equine medicine. Yep, Angie is going to become a veterinarian! We will miss her, but send her off with lots of gratitude and lots of love! We are thankful we have Eva still, who is involved in theatre production during the school year but promises to continue on with us at Windmill Animal Rescue. Thank you so much for dedicating not just yourself but bringing your entire family into our lives, Angie, when you decided to volunteer with us. Eva, we will be excited to grow with you as your sister is away learning; you will be learning too!
