Who's on my mind this evening?Jackson is on my mind. In 2011, Jackson was surrendered as an adult cat to windmill. He has quite the tale despite not having a full tail!! This guy is something I personally would call one of the Windmill shock and awe stories and nothing short of a miricle Jackson's will to live, and love IS the miricle. In 2011 after Jackson became established as a windmill resident he was allowed to wear the invisible fence collar and be one of the indoor out door residents who are awaiting adoption. One day when doing roll call and calling everyone in for dinner, Jackson was nowhere to be found .Sitting in the corner of the lot was his invisible fence collar and no Jackson. Despite all efforts Jackson had vanished. The seasons had changed and the snow came and went and turned into rain and still no Jackson. Then one day one of the New Market residents named Tim called asking to surrender a stray cat who was hanging out in his garage Tim already had cats in the house and they were not wanting to take in one more. So Toni sent a volenteer who loaded up a carrier and drove four blocks away and low and behold it was Jackson!! Jackson has come back!! He wasn't even that far away! Let's move forward to the spring of 2015 .Jackson is still a resident and has down his routine amongst his friends at the Mill and allowed to go outside for the day. A man in a car with his daughter came to buy some fishing bait. He must of been in a hurry to cast his line to not spot the tabby laying down right by his car tire in the lot. Yep poor Jackson was run over not once but twice that day. His tail ran over first , then he was ran over again as they left crushing his leg. Jackson was rushed to Countryside Vet Clinic in Dundas MN. Sent home on IV antibiotics, pain medication and fluids. Jackson was crashing throughout the night.Good old Dr. Rich saw him the next day and it was decided his best chance was going to be remove the leg and the tail and let's hope and pray? We'll this is Jackson's tale and his tail may be short now but his will to live is much bigger and remember nothing short of a miricle because Jackson's tale is proof he is the miricle!! Within 24 hours of loosing his tail and his leg he rapidly improved and wanted to stay around to live out his tale one could say. Jackson became strong enough and well enough to return to Windmill. 3 legs and a short tale are no big deal. Yet Jackson had changed. He made it really clear that he was afraid. Afraid of the monsters in the lot. He spent most of his time hiding, he no longer wanted to play. So it was decided he would be going home with Toni to be fostered where he wouldn't be afraid of the monsters in the lot and continue on with his short tale and play. When moving from a camper with Toni to her home in Killkenny Mn the first thing he did was run up a tree and chase a squirrel and Toni was amazed ! .In the last few weeks he took another turn that landed him back into the Vet . The prognosis wasn't good and looking pretty grim and probably wouldn't live. Toni took him home on hospice care. Yet day by day Jackson decided this is his tale and he has something to say. I am Jackson I will determine whether I go or I stay. my tail may be short and missing a leg but a miricle I am and I think I am going to stay but only for a while not to hop or skip or play not today. i want to rest and eat my favorite persons pate , feel her hugs and warmth and a few visits of my furry friends that have been so close to my heart. Even if it's just for a bit. My tail may be short,my leg may be gone but in your memory is where I live on. Remember me in a way that shows I am strong!! That I would not quit!! Jackson decided at 12:25 am in the lap of his best friend it was time to rest in peace. Until we meet again old friend !! Thanks to you many battles were won.
RIP Jackson.
Jackson is shown in a photo sleeping next to his friend LoLa who also passed away this last year. Two Windmill Animal Rescue foster kitties that lived together and the last remainders of the fosters who resided in the camper with Toni Maat after her home had burnt down. We thank Countryside Vet clinic in Dundas MN, and Animal Health Center in Cannon Falls MN, for all the excellent medical care they have given Jackson and many others over the years. And Thank you Toni Maat for your many years of love and fight you have given each creature offering your entire being to all these beloved furry friends.
