Understanding your dog’s body language is key to building a strong bond and ensuring their well-being! 🐾

Here are some common signs to watch for:
🐶 Alert: Eyes open, ears perked, standing forward — your dog is paying attention.
🐶 Respect: Turning their back or away shows trust or signaling they need space.
🐶 Needs Space: “Whale eye” (showing the whites of their eyes) indicates discomfort.
🐶 Anxious: Nose licking is often a sign of stress or uncertainty.
🐶 Friendly: Curved body, open, relaxed mouth — your pup is happy and relaxed!
🐶 Curious: A head tilt shows your dog is curious or trying to understand.
🐶 Overstimulated: Jumping can mean excitement but also frustration or excess energy.
🐶 Scared: Leaning back or trembling means your dog is afraid.
🐶 Stressed: Yawning isn’t always fatigue — it can indicate stress.

🐕 Learn to read these cues to meet your dog’s emotional needs and foster a happy, balanced relationship. ❤️

Big congratulations to Kasey and her puppy, Mayhem Vom Loganhaus, on earning their AKC STAR Puppy title today—the first of many accomplishments Mom is dreaming of! 🏅

Kasey went all the way to West Virginia for her Dutch Shepherd, knowing she had big goals in mind for dog sports. True to her name, Mayhem brought endless drive and a touch of chaos, but with training and patience, she’s made incredible progress in her obedience skills. We can’t wait to see what challenges they tackle next!

1. Congratulations to Buster, our newest Bachelor’s graduate! 🎉 At 8 years old, he doesn’t act a day over 2! After his mom underwent double knee replacements, some old habits crept back in. Together, we’ve worked to get them back on track, and we’re so proud of their progress. Way to go, Buster and Mom!

2. Murphy officially graduated from our Bachelor’s program! 🎓 He came to us with strong reactivity toward other dogs and people, as well as protective tendencies near his owner. Murphy has made progress, and we’re excited to see him continue to grow in group classes. Keep it up, Murphy and family!

3. Poe came to us to address reactivity toward dogs and other animals, anxiety around strangers, and occasional snapping. He even had a history of jumping on people and getting into a dog fight. After completing our five-week program, Poe and his mom now have more confidence and are equipped to handle a variety of situations. Amazing work, Poe and Mom!

4. Cori came to training to tackle her excessive barking, constant paper chewing, and resource guarding. Thanks to Denise’s dedication, she now has the tools to guide Cori to meet her expectations. With an “Off” switch in place, Denise no longer has to deal with nonstop barking. Great job, Cori and Denise!

👟 Reactivity Do’s and Don’ts : Passing Other Dogs on Trails and Sidewalks 🐾

What NOT to Do:
❌ Put your dog in a sit, stay, or down command – this gives them the chance to stare, which is where reactions start.
❌ Correct them repeatedly while they’re locked on the trigger – this can increase their arousal and make things worse.
❌ Allow your dog to pull, bark, or lunge toward other dogs – even if they’re friendly! This rewards bad behavior and reinforces reactivity.

What TO Do Instead:
✅ Give plenty of space – take a wide berth around the trigger and return to your path after passing.
✅ Move backward to reset when your dog starts to get distracted or tense.
✅ Turn around and walk away if your dog can’t handle passing the trigger. Once they refocus, reward immediately!
✅ Be your dog’s advocate! Use your voice to set boundaries: “My Dog is Not Friendly.”

Let’s set our pups up for success and reduce reactivity with patience, consistency, and these simple techniques! 🐕✨
