We have some EXCITING news to share!! We are happy to announce we are adding a Large Animal Veterinarian to our team!

Please help us welcome Dr. Jarred Burdette!!

Dr. Jarred W. Burdette grew up in WV and attended Ripley High School. He participated at the Jackson Co. Junior Fair, raising and showing livestock through the local FFA chapter. There he fell in love with the animals and support associated with the community that helped raise them.

Jarred has provided farrier services to this community since 2011, which helped support him while completing his undergraduate degree in Animal & Nutritional Sciences at WVU. Jarred then continued to further his education at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, VA where he obtained his Doctorate Degree. He has since completed a year long Equine Internship at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, KY, where he expanded his knowledge and skill-set by working alongside some of the top equine practitioners in the profession.

Dr. Jarred Burdette is now excited to continue his career back in WV at Ripley Paws Veterinary Clinic, providing not only small animal but large animal services to the the community he knows and loves.

A little late,,,, let me start off by thanking everyone who joined us for our first show of 2023. Grateful to our exhibitors, vendors, spectators, volunteers , announcer , judge, club members , and Winfield Riding Club who made our show not only possible but so enjoyable. Make sure you get your membership Saturday, it is the deadline for year end awards,,, each class will have an end of year award as well as a new catagory this year( over all points winner) the more classes you ride the more points earned.

INFECTIOUS DISEASE ALERT!

Horse owners and equine veterinarians should be warned about a *suspected* botulism outbreak in Louisiana. Since Dec. 3, 15 horses have become acutely ill at a Quarter Horse breeding farm in Vermilion Parish County, Louisiana; 12 of them died or were euthanized due to rapid decline. A preliminary investigation into the incident suggests that alfalfa cubes contaminated with dead animal carcasses and produced in Colorado are the suspected culprit.

If your horse is exhibiting any neurologic symptoms without any signs of precipitating conditions, contact your veterinarian immediately!

April 22nd is the deadline for membership applications if you intend to show for end of year awards. Qualifying for year end awards requires that you show 3 of the 4 shows being held in 2023. All classes with the exception of Leadline will be point accumulating and entry fees will be $10.00 per class. Leadline entry fee will be $5.00. We look forward to this upcoming show season.

We recently lost a long time Club member. On Sunday, March 26, my dear friend and love, Jane Webb passed away early that morning at home. She had fought long and hard with several medical problems. She was always a fighter until recently. Lately, she had been in a lot of pain that was painful to bear. I will miss her greatly. We were together for over 19 years.
Jane was here at the beginning of Horse Club in 1967. She showed Walking Horses with her father, Duard Poe. She later became Club Secretary and served in that role for 31 years. She loved the Club and cared for everyone but especially the kids. She made everyone feel welcome and that they were important to her and the Club. Even after she was unable to attend Club functions, she always wanted to know how everyone was doing. She will be missed.
Wake and funeral service is April 7th from 11 am -1 pm at Hafer’s Funeral Home in Elkview. There will be a grave side service afterwards at the cemetery in London.

The Oct 15th show to be held at Winfield , is the Club’s last show for 2022. It will be a double point Halloween Fest that will include a costume class as well as best decorated haunted trailer. Be sure to purchase your programs for chances to win door prizes with the Grand Prize being $100.00 . Bring the kids out in their costumes for trick or treat and let’s have a Ghoulishly good day .

Introducing a new, easier way to register for Elk River Boots and Saddle Club Horse shows. Now you can register up to two family members and up to two horses on just one entry form. You can register for all your classes per Division for up to two horse and rider teams. For your convenience, each Division is printed on the reverse or Page 2. If you would like to preregister, please fill out and email to [email protected] by Friday, September 9 at 9:30 pm. Otherwise, you may print the entry form, fill out and bring to the show. To speed registration on our end, all riders and horses previously shown this year are preloaded on the class sheet. We just have to click on 3 items per class to register you.
