Yesterday was the first Horse Show of the year! We started the year off with Prince William Horse Association a favorite from when I was a kid and now I get to share it with all my amazing students of all ages! There were laughs, smiles, learning, fun, and tons of ribbons!! We really started the year off right, I'm so excited for the barn to get it's show groove back on. Here's to the first of many this year, and tons for fun!

Peaches 2-20-24 Training Update, 2nd week working with this sweet girl. She gets distracted from time to time, so we're really working on consistency. After a lazy winter off, we're building her muscles up slowly. Western Pleasure, although it looks low, slow and easy, is physically demanding of the horse. Proper self carriage, impulsion, and balance takes patience. 🐎Training Update! Got Domino down in the big ring! Oh my, how do we order more days like today! It was gorgeous! Domino was so good for our first trek together in the big ring, I even rode him down there, and he was rock steady! This chunky boy needs to get toned back up and learn some finer points of pleasure riding. I'm so happy we were able to get down there where there's more room! We worked on walk/trot, figure 8s, and transitioning into the canter properly!! I can't wait for our next session, he's so much fun! Remember, I offer travel training within 25-30 miles! Snickers! More lariat practice! It's so important to to desensitize the horse to the rope before attempting to swing or toss the rope from their back. Snickers did fantastic with this yesterday despite all the wind! Snickers got his first introduction to the lariat today, I couldn't get a video out in the round pen when I started swinging it, but he was really well behaved today. Desensitization to the lariat (letting him see it, smell it, rubbing it all over him, etc) is so important for a young horse, getting them used to the rope young makes training down the road, much easier. This is another great thing to do with a young horse, riding them to hard early can cause damage down the road, so exposing them to things during sessions and not just riding all the time is a great way to train your young horse to be better in all areas! I can't wait to continue his rope training!
