“Pack it up, we are moving to Missoula!” That was what was told to me in late January of this year. It has always been a lifelong dream of mine to move to Montana. After creating a successful practice in Western North Carolina, that dream came a reality this winter when my wife accepted a job in Missoula.
I’ll admit, knowing I would be starting a new Equine Podiatry/Farrier service from scratch did make me nervous. I’ll take the struggle to be able to live in the “Last Best Place”. IT’S FREAKING (my wife changed this word for me) MONTANA!
Why am I different?
I show up on time. Across the country, most horse owners struggle with farriers that are either late to appointments or just don’t “show up”! I think that is one of the most important “services” I can offer. Your time is important, and should be maximized. Waiting around for your farrier to “show up” and the soundness of your horse should be the least of your worries. Rescheduling your next appointment ensures we both know and are vested in the improvement or maintenance of the work completed each session.
I have 25+ years experience. I began working with horses when I was in high school. I started colts for a walking horse trainer in Western North Carolina. I moved onto training and showing Reigning and Western Pleasure horses after graduation. With years of training experience, I went to shoeing school and soon started my own practice. I have worked with trail horses, performance & ranch horses, show jumpers, world champion walking horses and everything in-between. I have experience treating a wide range of foot problems including club feet, hoof injuries, laminitis/founder, navicular syndrome and white line disease.
I study. As you know technology is constantly changing. The world of equine podiatry is no different. New techniques, new substances, new ideas are constantly being developed, and as a professional, it’s important to me to at least have an understanding of what is out there. I also collaborate with other equine professionals. Equine massage therapists, equine acupuncturists, and veterinarians reading X-rays, understanding thermal scans, helping to develop effective care routines all are part of my daily work schedule.
Promptness, scheduling services, experience, compassion, knowledge, innovation, and collaboration all are some of the most important traits in a farrier that provides the best Equine Podiatry services. I work hard to make sure all those characteristics are readily noticed by both human and horse.
There is no structure on the horse that is more prone to injury, disease, or general wear and tear than the hoof. Give me a call today and let’s see how we can help make your horse a better version of itself today.
