Josie’s Misfit Ranch cares and advocates for misfit animals so they can find forever homes and live their best lives. “Misfit” animals are wounded in body or spirit who have been discarded, mistreated or ignored because they are considered less than “perfect.” We show these animals the love and compassion they deserve, build their confidence, and focus on all they can do instead of what they can’t

so they can become important members of their forever families. Josie is a beautiful redheaded diva from North Carolina, who was saved by another dog rescue just hours before she was scheduled to be euthanized. She was adopted by Marla Pugh, who had previously been a crazy cat lady, but wanted to expand her lunacy to dogs as well. Josie became Marla’s best friend, serving as her family when she lived away from her human one. Josie and Marla settled into their 10-acre ranch located in Ellensburg, Washington in 2019. Inspired by her love for Josie, Marla vowed to help other animals and connected with Mikey’s Chance Rescue in the Tri-Cities. It was through this partnership where she fell in love with special needs animals. Marla added to her pack with Xander, a one-eyed German Shepherd; Loki, a miniature German Shepherd whose legs were deformed from birth; and Sophie, a German Shepard who has a troubled past and lost half her sight to pannus, a degenerative eye condition. Over the years, Marla fostered several animals – all with special needs.

We are on a roll. This pocket pitty named Socket lived with a homeless couple until circumstances meant they had to give her up. One of our amazing fosters took her in and we are helping her get spayed and find an equally amazing forever home. She is loving the indoor life with structure and safety. Mt Stuart Animal Hospital and Valley Vet are helping with her care and she will be available in about a month. Thank you to Nana and Zach for choosing rescue and giving sweet Stevie a forever home! We found Stevie in a feral colony living under a condemned trailer. Only he wasn’t feral, and he also was partially blind, leaving him even more vulnerable. We took him in and learned he is an excellent cuddler and very much a boss cat who just wants to be on someone’s lap and know he is king. Thanks to this young couple in Ellensburg, his dreams have come true! Have an amazing life Steve … you deserve it!

Thanks to our community rallying with donations we were able to take in this guy who was found as a stray, emaciated and with an eye injury and a bad UTI. Valley Veterinary Hospital & Cascade East Animal Clinic checked him out and prescribed medicine and he will stay at the ranch for a bit until he feels better. We named him Wally and he’s very sweet and doesn’t appear to have any reactivity to dogs or cats and loves humans. We will see how he does as he heals and starts showing his personality. Wally has had a rough time but we hope now it will all be good days ahead. Thanks again to everyone who donated so we could help him!

Thanks to your generosity the last couple days we are able to help an emaciated and sick dog, and a stray pregnant mamma and her two sickly kittens found freezing in the elements. But there are so many more … like this young girl who was found wandering around a school in Toppen*sh with what appears to be a bite injury. Luckily she was found by one of our fosters, but we still need help paying for her treatment. If you can donate even a small amount it will help us get this girl healthy and into better circumstances. Happy Sunday afternoon. And the countdown begins...as you're planning out your upcoming week, be sure to include a stop at the barkery on Sunday, December 8 between 12–3p as Santa will be in the shop for the 2nd Annual Paws with Claus🎅🏻 This is an all ages event, no purchase necessary and there are no charges. Last year we had canine buddy's, feline buddy's and kiddos getting pictures with Santa. This is going to be an amazing day and I can't wait to share it with you♥️🎅🏻

This poor boy was found by a Good Samaritan today wandering the streets near Tieton. He had a rope around his neck but is way too thin and has a laceration above his eye. The vet says he’s around 5 and has blood in his urine (he’s also intact) and will need tests. We were asked to take him but need to find someone to sponsor him so we can get him the medical treatment he needs. We also need a foster. Tis the season for giving! Our friends at Upside Down Winery in Cle Elum are hosting a “Giving Saturday” event Dec. 7 from 5-7 pm with proceeds going to benefit animals wounded in body and spirit. Happy Birthday to one of Josie’s favorite humans on the planet, Robert Lowery, who so diligently volunteers at the ranch every Tuesday and takes care of the senior dog area and gives all the animals love. Rob also takes care of the ranch on days we have events - like the Neuter clinic this last Saturday, allowing us to focus on important projects. And if that isn’t enough, he’s also the MC for Dachshunds and Friends on Parade. Rob is simply selfless with he and his wife also helping at FISH and other charities. We love you Rob!

Meet Scout! This 5-year old, 25 pound bundle of energy was given up by his family and is looking for someone to love him forever. He would do best in a home with either no other dogs or laid back small dogs. According to his foster: “He LOVES fetch. Holy cow! And he’s SOOO LOVEY. It’s adorable. He’s absolutely incredible on the leash. Perfect in his crate. Completely accident free aside from one scared poop the day we brought him. Ask the Misfits

This weekend we are launching a new feature where you can ask us questions about rescue. On Friday we had to say goodbye to the most joyous dog that ever lived … sweet Pepsi. Her legacy will live on forever at the ranch, as a testament to love and endurance. Despite living in a dirty truck and being bred to sell puppies, Pepsi was never sad. Despite having to have an eye removed she remained joyous, even just out of surgery. Even at the end, while coughing from her lung tumors, she comforted those around her. She embraced each moment with exuberance, running full blast out into the world each day despite not being able to see what was ahead of her. She is our inspiration. The ranch seems darker without her light. But we are so blessed to have had her for more than 2 years, making us smile when sometimes we didn’t want to.
