Just like we shouldn't eat an entire bag of Halloween candy, neither should your dog! Make sure to keep any candy bowls or goody bags out of your pets reach... otherwise, they can get a rather spooky condition known as gastritis! Chocolate toxicity can happen from very small amounts of candy, and there is no safe amount of xylitol (found in sugar free gum or candy) your pet can ingest. If you find your animal has eaten your candy, call the pet poison control at (888) 426-4435

We are so happy to announce the newest member of our team here at Valley Vet, welcome aboard Brittany! If you bring in any horses you might see her out in the barn assisting our large animal Veterinarians, but she also has quite the passion for small animals. She graduated from Pima Medical Institute as a licensed veterinarian technician and has been working in the field for about 8 years. She has her own dogs and horses at home and loves to take them out trail riding whenever she finds the time. If you see her, say hello!

Beware the ostrich bone! If a treat is too hard for you to press your finger nail into, it's too hard for your dog to chew. Always monitor your dog when they are chewing on their toys, and throw away anything they break.

Dear clients,
Effective June 22, Valley Veterinary Hospital will not have regular lobby hours or veterinary appointments every other Saturday. These are the Saturdays that Ellensburg Animal Hospital provides weekend on call coverage. Between 5pm Friday and 8am Monday of these weekends, you will get our after hours recording, which allows you to be routed to the on-call doctor for emergencies, or to leave prescription requests or other non urgent messages.

We will continue to stay open on the Saturday mornings that our hospital provides weekend on- call coverage. We will also be accommodating regular wellness appointments for small animals, as well as urgent care appointments for small and large animals, from 8am until noon.

Coming to the vet can be stressful for more than just your cat! We know how frustrating it can be bring your cat in after you FINALLY catch them, only for the visit to be cut short because your cat is not in the mood to be handled by our staff. Laminitis is a severe and painful condition affecting the horse's feet. Treatment for laminitis is critical – if left untreated, laminitis can cause life-threatening damage to the coffin bone and hoof. If you are worried about lameness in your horse, contact your horse health care team.

Subsolar bruising occurs when there is repetitive trauma to the horse's sole, most commonly due to working on hard ground. Horses with no shoes, thin soles, and low heels are more likely to develop mild lameness from this condition. If you are worried about lameness in your horse, contact your horse health care team.
