It's National Animal Safety and Protection Month, and we're celebrating Zazie Todd's latest book. It's a must-have for anyone with a fearful, anxious or reactive dog. The training advice is useful for anyone with a dog, fearful or not.

"The debate shouldn’t center on whether aversive methods work or how quickly they produce results, but rather on the impact these methods have on a dog's well-being. All dogs can thrive with positive reinforcement when done correctly. Positive reinforcement works on dogs—it’s us who find it challenging."

Balanced dog training using positive reinforcement (rewards-based) methods and aversives (physical punishment) is no better than simply using force-free positive methods and love.
