Cat Enrichment: We placed one set of plastic eggs in a cardboard tray and we placed their favorite treats inside each egg. Then placed a second plastic egg on top to cover up their treats. We also smeared our cat’s Churu liquid treat on the top of some of the plastic eggs. If you decide to use this idea for your cat, please make sure to supervise them and please do not leave them alone with the plastic eggs. Please remember every animal is unique and what is appropriate for one pet may not be for another.

Mealtime Enrichment:
Is your dog a fast eater? When a pup eats too fast, they can gulp down air which can increase the risk of your dog developing a serious health condition called bloat. Placing food inside a slow feeder such as this Chew Well toy slows down your dog’s ability to eat their food and provides mental stimulation and encourages problem solving behaviors. Please remember every animal is unique and what is appropriate for one pet may not be for another.

New Pet Introductions:
Introducing a new pet to your existing pets takes time and a lot of patience. If your new pet lives in a tank. It’s important to place their tank in a spot that does not disrupt your existing pets’ regular routines. We choose to place our turtle’s tank on its own stand away from places where our cats could reach the tank. We paid close attention to our turtle’s basking, resting, and feeding time routines in order to monitor how our turtle was adjusting to his new space. Whenever you introduce a new pet it’s important to monitor all of your pets’ interactions including your new pets' behaviors to make sure they are all adjusting well to this new change.

Is your pup uncomfortable crossing or walking by storm drains? We can reassure our dogs in a soft and calm voice that it’s okay. We can help our pups build their self-confidence approaching objects with simple words of encouragement and allowing them to approach when they feel comfortable.

Dog Enrichment: Our Chihuahua loves to play. We decided to get a flirt pole or flirt stick. It’s a stainless-steel sturdy pole with a long nylon rope and a lure (a braded felt rope toy) on the end of the nylon rope. It’s been a big hit! When offer our pets new objects as enrichment, we encourage our pet’s curiosity, problem solving skills, and natural play behaviors.
