Have you ever seen a sugar glider?? Sugar gliders, though they look like a small rodent, are actually part of the marsupial family! They are a breed of possum.

Sugar gliders have the ability to "glide" through the air, much like a flying squirrel. The one pictured here is only a year old!! From nose to tail, they can get up to a foot long! 😮

In lieu of our Annual Crab Feast 🦀, Countryside had a Summer Beach Bash Party yesterday!! ⛱️ there was jet skiing, volleyball, corn hole, paddle boarding and a bunch of dock diving!!

On Tuesday morning, Drs. Soverns and Thumel's youngest daughter, Paige, was driving down Benfield Road and saw a turtle in the road. She turned the car around to save it and watched it get hit by a car. He was bleeding 😥. She brought him to Dr. Soverns and they discovered he had lost his right rear leg. Internet sources said many wild box turtles have missing limbs and do okay. They brought him in overnight with food and water, but mostly, he kept still with his shell closed. He was much brighter yesterday, and they let him go in a safe environment. We love a happy ending! ❤️

We do have an awning outside that covers two-thirds of our outdoor play area for our daycampers but should it get too hot even with the shade and pool, we have a wonderful, cool indoor area for them to play in!! 🐾 🐾 🐾

Happy Independence Day!! ❤️🤍💙

This day, a lot of pets go missing due to the festivities and fireworks 🎆. It's important that we keep them safe and secure while we celebrate.

Make sure your pets are wearing proper identification on their collars and that their microchip (if they have one) is working and active.

Give them a safe space to be in. Mental enrichment helps get their minds off of the noise! Perhaps a lick mat or snuffle toy.

If they take medications for anxiety and noise aversion, be sure to dose them with enough time!! Some medications can take up to two hours to work, so if you know when your local fireworks are going to go off, give your furry friend their meds within an hour or two of start time.

Hope everyone has a safe holiday! We are open regular hours tomorrow and Saturday! Should your pet have an emergency tonight, please contact the nearest emergency vet clinic.

KITTENS IN NEED OF HOMES!!

These two adorable male kittens are available for adoption! One is a long-haired brown tabby (first 3 pics) and one is a short haired brown and white tabby (last 2 pics); they are both about 9 weeks in age. They are super social and love to cuddle! ❤️

These kittens were rescued from a locally managed cat colony located in Catonsville and can go to separate homes (or together 😉). They are both feline leukemia and FIV negative and have had their first round of vaccines with Countryside. The long haired brown tabby does have an umbilical hernia that is definitely repairable at the time of his neuter.

Meet Sammy!! He's a 14 year old (15 years in November) cat that has been a patient of Countryside since 2018! He's currently being treated for a heart murmur, hyperthyroidism, and arthritis, but he doesn't let those conditions slow him down! He's a quick learner and still young at heart!

You can teach an old cat (and dog) new tricks after all!! Check out this YouTube video of Sammy with his new lick mat and spinny toy! It's almost like he's a kitten again!

It's gonna be a hot one today!!! 🔥 🥵 ☀️

We've been getting a lot of questions about whether we still do day camp with these astronomical temperatures, and the answer is yes!!

We have an awning over about two-thirds of our outdoor area that does provide some shade for our daycampers to be in.

Water is always accessible to our campers, whether it be in pool party form or in bowls we have outside and in their kennel.

We also do have an indoor play area should it get too hot for both our day campers and camp counselors so rest assured that your pup is having fun in the sun but when it gets too hot, they're still having fun inside too 😀

Please help us welcome Dr. Johnson to our practice!

Dr. Blaire Johnson graduated from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech in 2017 and then completed a one year rotating internship at the Veterinary Specialty Center of Delaware. She has been practicing veterinary medicine ever since. She has an extensive background in critical and emergency care so her knowledge will definitely be an excellent addition to Countryside's team!!

She shares three daughters with her husband, Dr. Heath Thumel, and enjoys baking, working out and spending time with her kids!!

Meet Madeline!

We have been caring for Madeline, a 13 year old tortoishell kitty, for the past few weeks because she hasn't been feeling well, but after an exploratory surgery and excellent after care by her owners, Maddy is feeling much better!!

Maddy's story is one to tell! We actually saw her for her initial kitten visit about 12 years ago, but her loving family suddenly lost her after that, and we never saw her again.

Fast forward to Memorial Day 2024: They found Maddy at a shelter!! She was surrendered by whoever found her, and the shelter found a microchip that STILL had her original family's contact information after all these years. She was hastily picked up by them and brought back to us for care again, and she has been thriving back at her first home.

This is why it is so important to microchip your pets as soon as you can! Madeline was lost for over ten years, and thanks to her microchip, she found her family to live out the rest of her days ❤️
