Heatwave for the next couple of days is in full force and those hot days affect your pets as much or more than you. Chilled or frozen dog treats are a great surprise for your dog.
Here are some ideas for healthy, cold treats your dog will love:
Doggie "Ice Cream" - real ice cream is not healthy for dogs. The excess dairy can cause GI upset, plus there is too much sugar making it too easy to mess up their sugar levels. However, you can make an easy dog friendly version at home:
๐๐๐ก๐๐ก๐/ ๐ฃ๐๐๐ก๐จ๐ง ๐๐จ๐ง๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ง! You will need:
1 ripe banana
8 ounces of plain yogurt (low-fat or non-fat, Greek yogurt is ideal)
1 tablespoon peanut butter (creamy is best)
Mix ingredients in blender/ pour into small plastic containers and freeze overnight. Leave in container and serve to your dog - they will last longer if you don't pop them out of the container. You can mix in diced carrots, apples, etc for variety.
๐ฃ๐จ๐ฃ๐ฃ๐ฌ ๐๐๐ ๐ฃ๐ข๐ฃ๐ฆ - Fast and easy treat using one ingredient. You will need:
Chicken or beef broth (fat-free, low-sodium, no onion ingredients)
Freeze overnight in ice cube trays or mini-muffin pans. You can feed a few alone as treats or place on top of kibble or in a water bowl to enhance flavor. Again, you can add diced carrots, apples, etc for variety.
Stay cool and keep your dog out of the heat!
