Do you remember REBA???
After 10 months of being removed from her adopter check out her transformation! The adopter said their veterinarian told them to put her down.

Reba was slowly dieing from starvation. But look at her now! Reba has made a full recovery! With the exception of rain rott scaring that was left untreated for many months. Her hair is slowly growing back in! Check out her transformation below!

Update on Cierra.
He got a much needed grooming and bath by our youth team! He stood like a champion and really enjoyed it! He was dewormed immediately and we were able to get him on a refeeding program of Orchard pellets, complete feed and sand clear for the next 30 days. Then the diet will increase. Cierra was also weighed. He is currently 720 pounds. At least 300 pounds under what he should weigh.

We still need donations for Cierra's care. We were able to raise $1,700 to date so thanks to everyone who did! Our goal is to meet $5,000. Please if you can share $20 or more, it will all add up! Go to nextstephorserescue.org and hit the donate button. Thank you so much!

We have a very urgent cry for help. .

The story is unbelievable. This horse did not come through our organization nor did we adopt to the owners, however the owners lied and told law enforcement, veterinarians and anyone that questioned them about the condition of their horses (yes there were more) that they came to them in this condition from NSHR and they are rehabbing it. This is a HUGE LIE. WE DO NOT ADOPT OUT SICK OR SKINNY HORSES. Anyone that knows us, knows better and those that believe that s**t knows "nothing". We cant believe this rumor is actually a thing. I can't believe authorities believed them without calling us to check out their story. This horse was scheduled to be euthanized next week because the owners wanted to say it couldn't be helped. At least one veterinarian knew something wasnt right and did the correct thing.

Lets make this clear....We do not have a foster program and no one gets sick horses from us to rehab. We do all the rehab here at the facility and when completely rehabbed, they are cleared for adoption by our veterinarian. Horses that leave here are no longer a "rescue" but a horse with a name that needs a new home. All vet and medical records go with the horses adopted from NSHR.

In our opinion they used that story to hide what they did, push blame and to avoid prosecution. Come on people! Wake up! Is it really that easy to get away with neglect? Are there not mandated reporters anymore?

We got the first picture from the original owner to show this is how this horse looked the day these aweful people got the horse from them. Only 9 months after getting this horse, this is what it looks like. Unbelievable.

We can not give out anymore information regarding this horse so please no questions. Lets just focus on helping if you can. Right now it's about the horse, not it's past..... We know we can save him. This is what we do.

Please go to nextstephorserescue.org and donate. We need to raise $5,000 fir medical, farrier services, feed and much more. Please help!
Thank you so much!!

$25
To all our supporters! We need help. Just $25!!

We have 9 horses that are headed to SummitValley Horse Center for 6 months of training that have been sponsored to go to training camp!! We are now looking for sponsors to help with some out standing vet bills and to help cover costs to feed and care for the remaining horses that will stay in our program.

We need to raise $5,000. We know it's a steep amount, but not really considering the cost to care for the all horses on a monthly basis. $5,000 will clear out the vet bills and get feed for another 2 months. If we can get 200 people to donate just $25 or more we will reach that goal! We have a lot of followers so please help us today! Ask your employer if they can help! All donations are tax deductible!
After you donate, please tell everyone you did and share this post!!
Go to nextstephorserescue.org and hit the red donate button! We thank you in advance!

Our President, Betina Tacoronte is retiring from rescueing horses after 18 years in the business! While still on the board, she will still be linked to rescue but in a different capacity. Betina is progressing really well with her new found love of training horses with behavioral issues. Since rescuing up to about 3,000 horses between Hawaii and Colorado for the past 18 years she wanted to find that nitch to help the horse community even better. Not just to rescue the horses but to find a way to help horse owners keep their horses. Many horses end up in the wrong hands when rehomed because the horse still has training issues and now the new owner can't handle them. Some of the horses end up in the feed lot which is a gateway to slaughter. "With the numerous horses that go through the door's of a rescue facility, most are horses that were not trained properly. When not trained properly, bad behavior forms within the horse and this is about 80% of why the horses are rehomed", said Betina. She said that most horse owners are not trainers and to hire one is super expensive. She has seen horse owners buy CD's online or take online courses regarding training (although helpful) but its not the same as getting guidence, advice or hands on training from attending a clinic or hiring a professional trainer. Training horses takes patience and many, many hours. Being consistent with the training is another issue with some horse owners. She also said, that people most often get their friend or neighbor, who has owned horses since they were 6 years old or ridden in shows and rodeos to train their horse. Although, they maybe great horseman and horsewomen, most have never trained a horse from ground zero, let alone an unhandled horse or a mustang.

Betina thought years ago, if she and her staff could develop a program that helps horse owners keep their horses through proper training and to teach them to understand horse behavior through education, it just might help keep horses out of the pipeline to slaughter. Her and her staff will be available to train but will also refer to other professional trainers that will be added to their list of qualified trainers that believe in the same mission. "I'm still learning after years of being a part of the training industry. I love learning new things and will continue to learn! Now I'm ready to share my knowledge to those that want to come with me on this journey!", said Betina.

Betina has over 40 years experience riding and showing horses. In 2017 she became a T.I.P Trainer for the Mustang Heritage Foundation and is currently a member of the EXCA. She has been taking training and horsemanship clinics from amazing professional Horseman; like Mark Hernandez with American Horse Company LLC, Lee Hart, Bill Cameron, Neil Ward, Carson James, Travis Matez, Abby Pacheco, and Patrick Sullivan just to name a few for the past 20 years. Training under them helped her understand the greater need to serve in the horse rescue industry and that's educating horse owners about Equine Behavior. This helps improve their horsemanahip skills and to set up the horse to be successfully placed in a long term home situation if the owner has to rehome the horse.

Soon, Betina will start a new journey of training horses and educating horse owners to better serve her community! With her love of the appaloosa horse, her new company name is called "Spot On" Horse Training. "Training with Confidence and having a better foundation will improve your relationship with your horse!" Said Betina
We all here at NSHR wish her well and support her new endeavor!
