Long read! Please share!❀️

Wishing you all a Happy New Year's Eve & New Year's! We're excited and ready for a new beginning of kitty mischief and rescue, but we are absolutely exhausted! December especially has been hectic with expensive vet emergencies, some heartbreaking lossesπŸ˜”, very late night rescues, and the recent winter weather brought about a frozen well for 3 days (no water) & frozen steep inclined driveway. πŸ₯Ά 5 days, no way in or out. (which is a lot of time for rescue world) Not fun with the amount of animals we have, including our personals- rabbits, cats, chickens & ducks, oh my...oh and the humans tooπŸ˜…! All animals lacked for nothing, though!πŸ₯°

For the whole of January, we will be taking a break from rescue, meaning no new intakes, limited email & message correspondence. Our website will have a list of rescues to contact for surrender inquiries, so we will most likely not respond to surrender email inquiries. Please note that age/birthday, gender, vaccinations, & combo test results are listed for each cat on our website, so we won't respond to these email inquiries either during January. Also note that, just as website indicates, you must first submit our free online application to set up meet and greets (if application is approved). We just need to step away from constant Q&A correspondence and focus solely on our animals & recharging.

We WILL continue adoptions, though, and caring for our current rescue kitties, but we need to mentally recharge for just a bit and recoup from the big freeze chaos and whole year. All recent applications will be processed starting Tuesday. Thank you for your wonderful patience and all your generous support!!!😍😽

Want to help us ring in the New Year with some supplies for the kitties? They so very much enjoy (not just food), but shiny, new toys and towers. Just like kids! πŸ’—

Here are some dangers for pets to look out for as you celebrate the Holidays! What others can you think of? We'd like to add Xylitol - a very common artificial sweetener found in everything from chewing gum to peanut butter. It's incredibly toxic, even in very small amounts. So always check ingredients!

Vicki W. added string and ribbon (like for wrapping gifts), and we couldn't agree more! Those kinds of blockages can be fatal, or at best cost thousands in emergency surgery. Be sure to keep strings and ribbons under supervised play, or tucked safely away!

Sheila CG added open flames to the list, and what a great addition! Things like candles are a huge pet safety risk, not just at Christmas and Hannukah times. Always be sure to keep fires/open flames at a safe distance from pets!

Wishing you a safe and happy Christmas & Holiday season!

😺Could you please share to help Twyla find her forever home?🀩

Check out another of our available tortie beauties, Twyla! She's besties with Handsome Mustached Henry, featured earlier this week. If you've ever been owned by a tortie, you know they're overflowing with personality!

Tortie Twyla is a shy gal when first meeting people, or in new situations. But once she's comfortable, look out! She'll charm the treats out of you with her good hearted, goofy nature. Her spirited personality is well balanced by her incredible sweetness. Even though she's shy at first, she's super loving and will make a purrfect companion!

If you're ready to take a chance on a great girl who needs a little time and space to get comfortable, fill out our free application and we'll schedule a meet & greet once approved.

😻 Will you please help us by sharing Handsome Henry? 😘

By popular demand, we give you Henry, in all is mustached glory! This guy is model material, complete with the quiet, mesmerizing stares. Originally scheduled for TNR (that's Trap, Neuter, Return), it was soon discovered that he and his siblings were too sweet for the streets. He's been seeking his own catwalk in a forever home ever since.

Now, don't go thinking he's only good looks. He's a super goofy, playful, and loving cat. His curiosity leads the way as he teams up with his favorite partner in crime, Twyla (a lovely tortie we'll feature on Thursday!). He gets along well with other cats. It takes him a long time to warm up to people, though once he does, he's remarkably sweet! Since Henry is super shy, he'll probably never come out to greet your house guests. He prefers to people watch from an appropriate distance. Us too, Henry! 🀣

Are you the one who can offer Henry a full time gig? Fill out our free application and once approved we'll schedule a meet & greet!

🎡 Maybe I'm crazy, but it's crazy and it's true. I know you can save me, no one else can save me now but you.... I would do anything for love.... but I won't do that🎡

Meet our newest beauty, looking for the purrfect home to suit her desires. She was an owner surrender in a shelter. Her name was precious, but honestly, we can't help but call her Polly! She'd just climb into your pocket to spend the day with you if she could!

Call her Precious, Polly, Meatloaf...she doesn't care! Just don't call her late for cuddles. If you don't already own all of the cats, and are ready for this love bug, fill out our free application & we'll schedule a meet & greet once approved! Remember, she would do anything for love, but she won't socialize with cats. πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚

Congratulations to Isabelle on her adoption this weekend! Isabelle came to us from a shelter at roughly 10-16years of age (age not certain yet due to condition), severely emaciated/dehydrated, light URI, slightly stressed kidneys, and declawed. BUT through it all, this purring angel only wanted love. She is recouping well with her new mom and grandmother who spoil her so! She is quite the diva who needs to be a lap cat at all times. You deserve nothing but that Isabelle! Happy tails!❀😘

Welcome to our 3rd and final post on grieving the loss of a pet. We hope you'll share with someone it could help. πŸ’ž

There's a common belief that grief is something you come through, or get over. But it's not. The truth is, you'll grieve forever. It evolves over time, we adjust to our lives being uprooted, but it's always with you. Grief rituals, or things we do to honor our lost loves, are one way we can start the healing process. Rituals can be helpful at any time, even years after your loss. Maybe you feel yourself getting sad at a certain time of year due to a loss. What can you do to honor your pet or loved one, remembering the good times instead of focusing on the pain?

Whether your loss is a death or a change (we can grieve fosters going to forever homes, pets that have to be given up, personal relationship changes like divorce, and many other events), here are some ideas for ways to honor your loss.

1) Have a wake. Whether you invite a few supportive friends over, or keep it to your household, telling stories about your beloved pet while looking at old photos and favorite objects can be very healing. Incorporate your favorite comfort drink or food, keeping in mind you may feel like making & baking from scratch or you may only have energy to make your famous call to the Chinese restaurant you love. No judgement, do what you have the energy for and what feels good.

2) Designate a memorial space in your house. Perhaps you have a favorite picture of your pet, a favorite toy, and a collar. You can place them together as a sweet memorial to your baby. If you chose cremation, the ashes can go there as well. Some people dedicate a wall to pictures of lost loves. There are even companies that make paintings with your pets ashes, and companies that put your pet's picture in renaissance paintings. Do whatever brings you joy.

3) Write about you feelings. We've talked about the damage bottling things up can bring, it can really take a toll on your health. Express, don't repress. Some people prefer journaling, or poetry to get those feelings out. You can even write your pet a beautiful eulogy. Whether you share it or not is entirely up to you.

4) Get crafty. You don't need to be an artist to honor your pet with a project. Much like grief itself, it's about the journey. A grave marker is a wonderful project if your pet is buried at home. Perhaps a mosaic garden stone in memory of your pet, or a simple collage of your favorite pictures and their favorite things. There are lots of great art studios that will help you design the perfect painting, or create a beautiful piece of pottery that will make you think of your pet with a smile.

5) Plant something as a living memorial. This one can have double benefits, as sometimes we need an outlet for the excess energy that can come during the stages of grieving - like anger and denial. Digging a hole in the ground, whether to bury your pet at home or for a new plant, can be very cathartic. If you have a green thumb, and love gardening, this one is defiantly for you. You can choose to plant something beautiful, or even something useful, like a pineapple.

6) Make a donation to a local rescue or shelter in honor of your pet. What better way to honor a life than by helping to save others? You can choose the place you rescued your baby from, or your favorite charity. It doesn't even have to be for animals. Do what feels right for you.

We'd love to hear about your past or present grief rituals, and if you have any you'd like to add. Let us know in the comments!

To all of you, we see you. We feel your pain, we understand your loss. You are not alone, in grief we walk together. We do hope some of our suggestions over the series have been helpful. Thanks so much for being here with us! πŸ₯€πŸŒˆπŸ’ž

UPDATE on yesterday's emergency baby!

Ratatouille (named by our friend who transported her to and from the vet) is recovering well from surgery! She's super sweet, and terrible at having her picture taken because she needs ALL the love. She had to have a tail amputation, but the vet was able to leave her a little stump. She is absolutely loaded with parasites, so her tummy is going to be off for awhile as we continue the deworming process.

Signs seem to point to this being a car engine accident - she was likely seeking warmth in a car engine and someone didn't bang on the hood before starting their car. We might not be in full swing of winter here yet, but it's cold enough that babies are seeking warmth. PLEASE bang on your hood or honk your horn before starting your car in cold weather.

We'll be attaching a video of her in the post or in the comments!

WARNING Graphic Pics!

It's Giving Tuesday 2022! What does this mean? It can be a little confusing!!! We'll try to simplify below. But first know that your donations %100 go to helping cats in need much like this 8 week old angel pictured. She came to us so quickly and rushed to vet so quickly that no name has been given yet. She has suffered a severe injury to tail called degloving, which means the skin is completely ripped off exposing the muscle & tissue. We will keep you posted once she is out of surgery today!❀️

Facebook Giving Season is Nov.15th - Dec. 31st of 2022, or until Meta's $7 million match fund is spent. For your donation to be eligible for match by Meta, you must set up a recurring donation between Nov. 15th - Dec. 31st of 2022.

Meta will only match one person's donation up to $100, meaning if you do over a $100 recurring donation, it will only be matched by Meta up to $100. After a 2nd donation is made on your recurring agreement, Meta may match your donation! Meaning if only one donation made, no Meta match made. Meta will notify you on Facebook if your donation is matched. πŸ₯°

Would you consider a $5 or any recurring donation amount for the next couple weeks? With 1600 followers, that could be a tremendous Meta match fund for us! ❀️

When sharing human food with your furry friends, it's always a good idea to do a quick search, to make sure it's safe. Fatty foods, like whipped cream, that are considered safe should only be given in very small amounts, as a special treat. We've shared a couple of infographics to help you out! While sage is often listed in the 'no' column for pets, the dried or fresh herb is actually perfectly safe in small amounts for cats and dogs. It's even beneficial, helping tummy problems like constipation, gassiness, and diarrhea. We've also attached a recipe* for a cat & dog friendly pumpkin smoothie. Make sure you use 100% pumpkin!

🎢Grayby, baby. He's been an awful good boy.
Grayby baby, he wants a home and really that's not a lot.
Been an angel all year.
Grayby baby, says hurry down and adopt him tonight!🎢

Grayby says forget the 54 convertible and yacht! All he wants for Christmas is you! This 5 year old sweetheart is Fiv+ and is very timid of other cats. He was once bullied by a group of cats, but through it all he remained a gentle giant, never wanting to fight. Grayby only wants to cuddle and lounge in peace. The vet even commented that he's the calmest cat ever. His zen personality is sure to bring tranquility into your life, especially during the hectic holiday months. Will you give this ever so gentle, sweet soul a forever home?

It's $5 Friday! We are at max capacity and exhausted.πŸ˜” Sadly, we just can't take anymore in. We are messaging people back with as much help/advice as we can offer. Even then, there are still more messages to respond to by the end of the day.πŸ’”

It's heartbreaking to know daily that one more cat wasn't saved. One of our recent emergency cases was Nolan who was scheduled for euthanasia an HOUR before we were contacted. He had no one but had so much love still. What's wrong with 3 year old Nolan? Severe calicivirus (bad URI) with limping calici syndrome, disabling him from walking/standing well. Is it curable? Yes!!! But all this didn't matter, for within an hour, his time would be up. Coincidentally, we knew someone who was in the area (luck was on Nolan's side). Thank you again Mindy! (Pic attached is of his original plea post for rescue; we will give updates soon with new pics; time is so sparse)

We are fortunate to have Nolan, but what sticks with us more...the transporter mentioned seeing one other precious soul being carted to incinerator after his euthanasia. Our heart sank, thinking if we had only asked who else needed rescue then Lincoln would still be here. But these are things that are beyond our control, for simply we just cannot save them all or think of everything. These harsh words are hard to accept. The guilt, the death, and the loss is always with us. Animals are so dear to us. (please note that no blame is towards the shelter; many do as much as they can; they as well suffer the same heartache)😒

The world is such a hard place for little things, so it is our jobs as decent beings to help these little creatures, one by one. Our funds are extremely low, but our hearts and abilities are full. Will you continue to help us?❀️

We're on week two in our grieving the loss of a pet discussion. Please share with anyone who may benefit. πŸ’–

Last week, Tami shared that she was grieving her loss, even though her cats are still alive. Which is such an amazing point - we do not need to experience a death to grieve. We grieve relationships ending, we grieve major life changes, we grieve big events that forever change us. And, like Tami, sometimes the unthinkable happens, and we have no control over having to give up a pet. Please know that your grief, in whatever form, is absolutely valid. It's completely normal to go through the stages of grief, and going through the motions - feeling all the feelings - is the only way through the rough spots. Treat your non death grief the same way you'd treat traditional grief. Grief never leaves us, it only changes.

One of the universal stages of grief, that often makes us feel like we're most alone, is the guilt. Now, here's the secret. You can be absolutely perfect. Do everything right. But still loose a pet. And in that grief, you will still feel guilt about something. There's always a feeling of 'I could have done more', or 'If only I had let him/her go sooner', or 'if only I hadn't let him/her go so soon'. Whatever your feelings, it's important not to fixate on them. Try to feel them without judging yourself, and reframing the thought. As an example, reframing of 'I could have done more' may be 'I did everything I know how to do, and asked for help when I needed it'.

It's also entirely possible you did do something wrong. Perhaps you knew you were making a mistake, like not taking a pet to the vet in a timely manner. It's still important to acknowledge those feelings, where they come from, but try not to judge yourself. What would you say to a friend in the same situation? It's important to be as kind to yourself as you would a dear friend. Holding onto guilt isn't helpful, but learning from it can be. Focus on what you'll do next time, and all the things you did right in your pet's life.

Forgiveness and acceptance go hand in hand. When we're looking back at our beloved pets final days, we're using hindsight. It would have been impossible to predict the future at the time our pets were struggling. Ask yourself what your intentions were at the time, and give yourself grace. Oftentimes we feel guilt even when we had no control over the situation. It's important to actively decide to forgive yourself. Your mind may wander back to guilt, but you can reaffirm your own acceptance and forgiveness.

We'd love to hear from you in the comments if you have anything to add, or want to talk about anything! Next Wednesday we'll be talking about grief rituals - ideas for active things to do that may help you release some grief. After all, grief is just love with nowhere to go. πŸ’ž
