Get prepped Ellijay. It’s about to get even colder.

After rain Saturday, arctic air moves in for several days. Days with temperatures below freezing, even for afternoon highs will be highly impactful with frozen pipes and broken water mains likely. Prepare to protect people, pets, pipes, and plants. I'm tracking the latest live on Channel 2.

Due to continuing icy road conditions on multiple bus routes, the Gilmer County School System will be virtual on Friday, January 17th. Staff report at regular time. Students should continue contact with their teachers through Google Classroom or email. K-5 students may check their school’s page or website to access the Choice Board. Please contact your child’s school directly if you have any questions.

🌟 Snippet Bus Update 🌟

Thanks to our incredibly generous donors, we’re thrilled to announce that the Snippet Bus will return to Gilmer County Animal Shelter for three more visits to provide free spay/neuter services to our county residents! 🎉🐾

We’ve had an overwhelming response to this program and are currently creating the appointment list. Once the clinic receives our payment (required in advance), we will confirm the dates for these visits. If you are selected, we will contact you directly to confirm your appointment date and time.

Please note:

Space is limited, and we are scheduling based on the order requests were received.
The Snippet Bus is operated by a low-cost spay/neuter clinic based in Murphy, NC.
Each visit costs us $3,600, which covers 360 minutes of surgery time. The number of animals we can accommodate depends on species and gender.
Surgery times:

Dogs: Neuter – 15 minutes, Spay – 30 minutes
Cats: Neuter – 5 minutes, Spay – 15 minutes
