Gilmer County Animal Shelter

Gilmer County Animal Shelter A government funded no kill shelter for the housing of unwanted, neglected and abused domestic animals.

Gilmer County Animal Shelter is a county operated facility. We house unwanted, neglected and abused animals that are domesticated and can also be put up for adoption. Due to limited resources and space, we do our best to get them placed with rescues or reunited with their families as quickly as possible. . The Realities of Shelter Life

Today, a mother dog and her five tiny puppies were left at our shelter. It's heartbreaking to think of the fear and confusion they must have felt. But now, they’re safe, warm, and cared for.

Our team has already started the process of cleaning them up, providing vaccinations, and ensuring they have everything they need to thrive. This sweet mom and her babies now have a chance at the brighter future they deserve.

Stories like theirs are why we do what we do, but we can’t do it alone. Your support makes it possible for us to give these animals a second chance. Stay tuned for updates as we prepare them for adoption—and if you’re looking to make a difference, consider fostering or donating to help us continue this lifesaving work.

Together, we can turn heartbreak into hope. 🐾

🎉 2024 Year in Review at the Gilmer County Animal Shelter 🎉

As we close out 2024, we want to take a moment to reflect on an incredible year of hard work, growth, and community support. This year brought changes, challenges, and triumphs, and we couldn’t have done it without our amazing supporters, staff, and volunteers.

💼 Staff Updates
We said farewell to two phenomenal kennel staff members, Raven and Sam, as they moved on to exciting new chapters in their lives. At the same time, we welcomed Faith and Garrett to our team—two wonderful additions who’ve already made a huge impact.

🐾 Community Efforts
A dedicated volunteer led a heartfelt fundraiser to bring the Snippet Bus to our shelter, providing free spay/neuter services, rabies vaccinations, and microchipping to our community. This initiative was a huge success, and we’re committed to continuing and expanding these efforts in 2025.

💖 By the Numbers
Here’s a look at what we accomplished together in 2024:

Total animals through the shelter: 1,141

Cats in: 435
Dogs in: 421
Miscellaneous cases: 285

Adopted: 124 cats 🐱 & 169 dogs 🐶
Reclaimed: 6 cats 🐾 & 34 dogs 🐕
Transferred to rescue: 248 cats 🐈 & 220 dogs 🐕‍🦺
Fostered: 147 cats & 126 dogs

🌟 Looking Ahead to 2025
We step into the new year with renewed hope and determination to strengthen our spay/neuter efforts and continue helping as many animals as possible.

From all of us at the Gilmer County Animal Shelter, thank you for making 2024 such an incredible year. Your support makes all the difference, and we’re excited to see what we can achieve together in 2025!

Sweet Lola needs you now! 🙏

This great girl is spayed, approximately 8 yrs old and is a couch potato. She is cat, kid, and small dog friendly. Lola currently lives with a person with health issues and is losing their housing at the end of January. She is very sweet, calm, and friendly and seems to love all people.

Y'all, this is a plug and play dog! Please help us find a home for this darling pup so she doesn't have to come stay at the shelter. The chaotic shelter environment is tough on senior dogs, and we would love to see her transition directly into a new home.

Adopt Lola! 💕
