It's SEEDING TIME!

This week kicks off our main weeks and months of seeding.

For the next 15 weeks, we will seed an absolutely preposterous quantity and diversity of seeds.

We seed seeds that are almost too small to see with the naked eye all the way up to seeds that barely fit in the plug tray.

From strawberries to milkweed, we start it all from seed.
And we do it all by hand!

Honestly, it's hard to overstate just what a production our seeding scheme is.

Farmer Brian JUST finished ordering all of the seeds of the Plant Sale, and whew!

We've ordered millions of seeds from almost 20 different seed companies to achieve what will be our MOST DIVERSE selection of Plant Sale plants in Bear Creek history!

We are adding 97 NEW varieties to the Plant Sale this Spring!

NINETY-SEVEN!!

Have we lost our minds?!
Maybe!

But we don't operate the largest organic Plant Sale in the state of Michigan for nothing!

And if we're going to go big, then we're going all out!

The act of seeding provides hope.
It nourishes our desire to grow things.
And it's so full of excitement and anticipation!

The first rounds of seeding are slow-going. And particularly tedious.
But seeing those blank trays of soil fill out with green is a sensation we'll never get tired of!

Fear not friends, Spring is on it's way and we are gearing up for it!

It was a great start to the day, enjoying a hot breakfast, before another cold day in northern Michigan servicing our wonderful customers.

We were honored to celebrate the retirement of Tom VanStedum our Energy Services Manager. Tom is in his 44th year with CO-OP and is moving on to his next chapter. We wish him all the best with this transition.

Farmers Exchange has been a fixture in northern Michigan agriculture since 1918 as a farmer-owned cooperative serving Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Crawford and Otsego counties. Over the years, EFE has continuously added to its many services, making it a one-stop shop for farmers, ranchers, foresters, gardeners, landowners, homeowners, drivers, pet and bird lovers – in other words, there is something for everyone. Those products and services include a full line of feeds, fertilizers, agronomy, crop seeds, tires, batteries and farm supplies. Ellsworth Energy Services, LLC offers complete LP gas and refined fuel distribution with deliveries to homes, farms, commercial sites and a driver on-call for weekend and night-time emergencies as well as operating the on-site gas station in downtown Ellsworth featuring no-lead and ethanol free gasoline, on-road premium diesel fuel, off-road premium diesel and kerosene, and propane cylinder fills.

The company provides complete tire service from its main location in Ellsworth. On the farm or in the shop, our highly qualified staff will repair or change your tires — experience true small town service the way it was meant to be. We carry a complete line of quality lubricants, automotive supplies and chemicals. For agricultural applications we offer a full array of crop seeds, bulk and bagged fertilizer, liquid and dry chemicals, liquid nitrogen, lime, fertilizer and lime spreader rentals and liquid 28% applicator rentals. Let us formulate a feed ration for your animals or choose from high quality manufactured feeds, by the bag or by the ton, for dairy and beef cattle, equine, hog, poultry and companion animals including household pets and wild birds. We also carry a full line of supplies for every livestock or pet needs. Everything you need for your garden is in stock including seeds of all kinds and lawn care products.

Ask our turf grass specialist for help to keep your lawn growing and looking great. To continue improving services, the Ellsworth Farmers Exchange has complete fertilizer and agronomy operations in Atwood as well as a grain terminal and drying operation. The company also has branch operations in Alanson, Atwood and Mancelona specializing in companion animal feeds and supplies, and custom and manufactured feeds for all species, bird feeds and feeders and ag supplies.
